ScarlettsMum wrote: »Hi everyone,
You all look like a friendly bunch and I was wondering whether there was room for a newbie?
I've just started cross sticthing after seeing a lovely height chart that I wanted for my daughter. I'm not really very good and I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'll give anything a go. I'm getting a little be unmotivated now though - I've been cross stitching every evening for about 6 weeks.
I'm on my last bear though. Just have to do ALL the backstitch afterwards.
Any tips on keeping motivated for a first timer?
PS could somebody either post or PM me to tell me how to put pictures on to flickr as I've never done it before.
Thank you
ScarlettsMum
Hi and welcome to the cafe. I agree with the suggestion about coffee and cake breaks, but don't do as i did and get chocolate muffin all over the carefully stitched patch of white thread !0 -

Some old works from when I was little. This is my cousin's birth sampler, I did this when I was 16 and it was the first sampler I completed. I hadn't taken a photo of it at the time as it never occurred to me:!

Baby tooth fairy pillow, again completed for my cousin, she's still using it now.

Dragon, that map looks awful to stitch, there is no real solid area so I guess its all counting

Hi, could you give me some details about this lovely chart please, is it a kit or chart, who makes it, did you find it on a website?
Sorry to be so nosey but it's lovely.
Thanks

Hi & welcome.
I totally agree with chicky, try not to leave the backstitch till the end. If you do it as you go along it makes the design come alive and if you are feeling demotivated/bored it can spur you on to keeping at it.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

Scarlettsmum, hello, I'm new-ish here too. Chickywiggle if you eat all those pancakes you will be proper sick!
I have finished a bookmark I was stitching, so I will take a photo and then maybe this evening I will be able to work out how to post it on here. I know the instructions are in the first post so I shall have to read it very carefully.Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Hello ScarlettsMum, new faces are always welcome
If you're struggling to keep motivated post here and everyone can give you a virtual kick to get you going again
kezbabybabe-lovely stuff, particularly like the bunny. I meant to pm you with my email the other day and forgot, so I'll do that now, thanks.
Ruthhoney- glad you're having a nice time, it's sunny here too which certainly makes a nice change from the rubbish weather of recent times!
chickywiggle- I didn't even know it was pancake day, woopsNo doubt the kids will come home expecting pancakes and I haven't bought any!! Hubby would usually make them but he's in Scotland for work, and I can't cook at all. Lucky you mentioned it, I'll have to make a last minute dash to the shops before I do the school run.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for the lovely welcomes. Duh - knew I'd done something wrong doing all the cross stitch first. Never mind I will know next time.
My challenge is to finish it by May. Unfortunately my daughter had a bad night so I only got a little bit done. She's four months old and I want to finish the height chart and have it backed and on the wall before she learns to stand by herself. If I can finish it by May I can take it to my Grans when we go to visit and she will let me borrow her sewing machine to back it properly.
Challenge for tonight is to finish the colour I'm using at the minute. Then I only have one more colour to do before getting on to the backstitch.

I didn't touch the doggie for two weeks but since Saturday I haven't been able to put it down. Was at it until 2 last night, silly silly girl... yawn...."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."
