What's the best cross stitching mag?

I get three regularly and World of Cross Stitching is by far the best. if you want smaller designs then I would suggest Cross Stitch Crazy:)

    good news

A good friend of mine Richard was diagnosed with liver cancer before Christmas at age 43, and a couple of courses of chemo had no effect. He told me today that his tumour has shrunk after just one round of a new treatment at Addenbrooks in Cambridge. He has 3 more rounds, so fingers crossed for a good outcome.

Sorry, it's nothing to do with x-s but I needed to tell someone - my heart is "fluttering" with the emotion of it all, if that makes sense.

Congratulations on the new arrival craftgranny makes me all broody seeing photos of such a little baby but I am almost sure my family is complete now!

I am back again with more questions I am planning to do a few of the all our yesterdays designs for when we finally get the house decorated does anyone have the free 2011 diary can't remember what magazine it was from am considering bidding on one but there is only one I can find and not sure really what is in it, it says 12 charts to stitch but as funds are a bit tight don't want to waste money on it if its pointless has anyone seen the charts etc

    almost sure lol.

I might have the all our yesterdays diary i seem to remember it ,it may take me a few days to locate it my craft room is floor to ceiling in boxes that need sorting and packing.
I'm almost certain i have a cd full of all our yesterdays charts too. i'll fish it out and i have one or two of their cover kits around somewhere . I'll get back to you.

Thank you for the good wishes it was a pain free experience for me but a 2 day labour for his poor mum .

I'm trying to keep busy and I picked The Art of cross stitch today. It's the first issue and only 99p. For that I got the mag, sampler, 6 needles, 6 threads, aida and a hoop.

I just wondered if it's worth subscribing to? You get a couple of issues at £1.99 with more threads a frame etc then it's £2.99. It says you can cancel but I never trust these things.
I'm intrigued, is there a web link for this? I've just subscribed to The Art of Knitting, as knitting is something that i wanted to do more often.

When i was younger I started to collect Needlecraft Magic magazines as I wanted to learn more cross-stitch, but it also included other sewing crafts.

Did it say in the first issue what sort of things you could expect from future issues? I think its a nice way to start off and its something you can keep for years and pass down.

My cross-stitch project is finally finished!

Some great news on here tonight - congratulations craftgranny and glad to here your news erics Mum.

Just popped in to say I finished the main stitching on my Lavender & Lace piece. Just left with gold metallic (yuk) to stitch in the mothers skirt and some beads on the baby's christening gown. Will post a picture soon.

Can't believe how much I've done in the last few weeks, it's more than I've done in the last 5 years.

If anyone has any tips on how to stitch metallic thread without it a) fraying or b) knotting I would be extremely grateful.

I cant find a link anywhere for it im afraid. If you subscribe (which I think you will have to as it wont be in the shops as its one of those collectors type mags)
you get with issue 1(99p) - 6 threads (unbranded) 6 needles, a hoop and a big piece of aida. There are several good samplers in the mag including the one you will be building up each week which is a kitchen theme. Its lots of kitchen stuff on shelves. the first issue gives you the threads and teapot motif.

    You get issue 2 at £1.99 - +issue 3 free + a thread organiser and a chest maganifying glass.

There after you will receive 4 issues packed together every 4 weeks at the price of £2.99 per issue plus 50p p&P per issue.

With the 3rd delivery you receive a wooden frame which fits your 1st sampler (the kitchen one)

You also get the ringbinders at £5.99 (thats the bit that put me off)

it says you can cancel the subscription at any time but you have to write a letter. Thats also what puts me off. If you cancel though, anything you have received already you can keep.

It does show you some of the future projects and they look nice. Its well worth the 99p for the 1st issue, and i would buy the second issue for £1.99 but I hate being tied into a sub, especially as it doesnt say how many ring binders you will get and they are £5.99. Plus as someone else pointed out the threads you receive arent branded. But all the charts show both DMC and Anchor.

In the end last night I decided not to start the kitchen sampler as I didnt think I would keep getting it, so I used the nice cherry red colour to start the wee angel heart shaped scented cushion for my DD.
It has got me back into cross stitching and I forgot how relaxing it was.
Thanks for the info re mags, ill look out for the World of Cross stitching.

Absolutely!! Well done Crafty Granny (well really, well done to the baby's mum, but you're allowed to enjoy it too) glad they're all doing well. Two days of labour - vile - that's why I will never risk having kids

Great news Eric's Mum :) xx
