Thanks for the replies. No the threads aren't branded. I quite like the sampler too. The rest of the charts in the mag show DMC and anchor, but not the one that builds up each week.
I think I'll give it a miss. I'll start the wee teapot tonight just to get me back into it anyway.

What's the best cross stitching mag?

I like 'cross stitcher' but I have purchased 'the world of cross stitching' before. If you could afford it I would get a few over a couple of months and see which you like. I don't always get a magazine it depends if I want one that month or not but some designs are amazing that some mags I 'have' to buy :rotfl:

Hi just popped in to say i'm a proud grandma again today my dil had a little boy logan samuel at 8.03 am weighing a healthy 7 lbs 6 ozs . mum had a few problems but both are doing really well now. i'll add you a pic when i get one.

nic when i first started i looked for a couple of mags with good cover kits and did those then bought aida and bits and pieces on ebay i got my floor stand and frame on there for a bargain £15 including postage . I also bought a job lot of hoops etc then just built my threads up by carefully buying dmc and anchor ones a few at a time . and of course i have a few charts now that the kind ladies on here nudged me including my current and my next project.
i've never stitched on linen and got a kit on ebay for 1.00 plus 80p postage just to try it then if i don't take to it i haven't wasted much.
I'm just having a sort out of the craft room so i'll ask my son to dig me the boxes of cross stitch stuff out i'm sure i have loads of stuff to get rid of in there . Has anyone used madeira threads i have some of those i got with a mag subs years ago and i've never used them and doubt i ever will. i even have some opened ones i got with other stuff from e bay .

Personally, I don't like Madeira threads - I find them slippery.

Just me though... I am fighting through a couple of Bothy kits at the moment, and they are getting on my nerves :)

As for Linen, I think it's lovely. Must more rustic looking, but then, I prefer evenweave to aida :))

I think if I was starting out, I'd look for a kit I fancied and try that. If I enjoyed it, I would get a mag - World of Cross Stitch is a bit better IMHO.

i hadn't tried linen but the finished pieces i've seen have looked lovely that's why i decided to try it . I haven't tried evenweave yet but i have a lovely blue piece ready to stitch lavender and lace guardian angels .

If i'm buying mags i get world of cross stitching, cross stitch crazy , and occasionally cross stitcher and i love some of the bigger projects in cross stitch gold i think it's called but i hardly ever buy it.

  • Congratulations on the new arrival craftgranny makes me all broody seeing photos of such a little baby but I am almost sure my family is complete now!

I am back again with more questions I am planning to do a few of the all our yesterdays designs for when we finally get the house decorated does anyone have the free 2011 diary can't remember what magazine it was from am considering bidding on one but there is only one I can find and not sure really what is in it, it says 12 charts to stitch but as funds are a bit tight don't want to waste money on it if its pointless has anyone seen the charts etc
