  • I've read the Book Thief. Tres bon.

Have you tried The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns? I liked the second one best

Yes have read The Kite Runner and although I have a Thousand Splendid Suns I am saving it to read as I know I will enjoy it.....that sounds daft but sometimes I like to keep books to read IFYSWIM

I only realised yesterday that it's my parents 40th wedding anniversary this year. Now I'm in a panic trying to find a nice piece to stitch for them in time  My mum is quite particular, and I know she wouldn't like anything that I've found so far. Has anyone seen any good 40th anniversary (or even general anniversary that I could personalise) that isn't too flowery? Everything I've seen seems to be all flowers
I did this one for the ex-fiance's parents:

Though a search on Sewandso for 'Ruby Anniversary' gave loads of results.

Authors I like to read are Marian Keyes, Jill Mansell and Sheila O'Flanagan.
My current book (though I keep putting it down) is A Christmas Carol.

On the book thing - I love all the ones you've mentioned - Sophie Kinsella, Jill Mansell, etc... Also love Erica James - they look a little bit old fashioned but they're not; very unputdownable! Her book The Holiday is one of my favourites.

No stitching done today with football and poorly DH

Another Sophie Kinsella fan here too... and most of the other authors mentioned. Jodi Picoult is another fave of mine as well.

I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice mainly because I have Kindle on my mobile and could download it for free :D I read it for English A Level but that was many moons ago. Also read A Christmas Carol over xmas which was great coz I love the story but had never read the book.

No stitching update from me at the moment. Have started the border of my latest project but each square of it takes me just over an hour and there must be at least 50 of them to stitch - I don't want to count! Hoping to get some stitching time in tomorrow.

back to cross stitch - what is everyone planning to stitch this afternoon/tomorrow and if you don't mind me asking, what is the book that you are currently reading ?? (I'm after some new books to try hence the nosy request!!).

I am reading "book of tomorrows" by Ceceila Ahern. Got in charity shop other week there - they were 5 books for a pound so I got it, another three by her and womens medical book. All hardback too. I enjoy her books also enjoy, Mary Jane Staples (esp the Adams family saga), Elizabeth Elgin and also like Marian Keyes. Sorry if I have spelt names wrong. Always looking in charity shops for books - something I have in common with hubby we both love reading.

Oooo Postie has just been - new Crosstitcher mag is here....wonder if this month is any better...............

I just read it and again not fully impressed - I am half thinking of giving it up but I have been a collector since issue 1 (late hubbys present was setting up a DD years ago for me). Don't know what to do for best.

shelly - that's good news about your dad :)

What about this - it is a wedding one that I altered. It only took about 2 weeks to complete.

Glad to hear your dad is feeling a bit easier Shelly - hope all things go better.

Was thinking of MrsMac and Bubbles too - hope they are well.

My mum was on phone tonight - her and her sisters are planning to go through my Grans things. My mum asked would I like a picture I gave her years ago back as my wee minding. It was a print of some snowdrops - when she and my Papa got married they couldn't afford a button hole so he picked some snowdrops from the garden and used them instead.

    Kind wishes to all

I think I will have that in the shed in a box as they were in there at time of fire so are safe. If you don't get a ;) let me know.

The frame I've been quoted on is 10" square, it's one they stock on their stall at the market. Basically, they're charging me £10 to put it in the frame and lace it, things like that.

They could supply all the things I need for £18, I'd just have to do it myself and I'd probably end up using duct tape or something ;)

I always try and lace my work so it is rare to find a place that will do it. Never want to use duct tape or that as I heard the glue can make the stitch go funny in years to come - after all that hard work do you want it to look funny. If you are keen to do it yourself - check out ikea as they have square frames and lacing is not that hard - and I think I do not too bad a job.

I sure have and I believe I'm now up to date with all her stories.

My favourite is probably Angels, as I read that while I was in hospital with my broken leg in 2005.

I'm quite fond of the Irish authors. :o

    Hi ladies.

Done some stitching on friday and again today, so nice to get back to it!
Have to look at it in the light of day though because I think I am changing my mind on a colour or 2...lol

I too am an absolute bookworm, have always got one on the go. I have just finished a Jodi Picoult called Picture Perfect....was a good book but finished rather abruptly.
I can't say I have a favourite author, I like too many to remember them all though Martina Cole never disappoints me. If you could see my bookcases they are full of all different types of stories ranging from detective stories (Michael Connellys Harry Bosch books are great) to real life to chick lit.....and everything in between!
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
