Some more options to try?

Sorry:
I recommend you to uninstall the existing graphics drivers for the 7800 graphics card. Download the Forceware 93.71 version of drivers from our website and disable onboard graphics adapter if any.
Please follow the steps mentioned below to download Forceware 93.71 drivers for the GeForce 7800.
Please visit the link below to download the driver:

I haven't tried powerstrip yet no. I thought there may be a simpler solution first. I will try that if NVIDIA confirm that the graphics card doesn't support 1440x900. I can't set the resolution you suggested in fact, I'm not sure there are any widescreen resolutions in the list...0 -

I would give one of those earlier drivers mentioned in that thread a go.Charlie0 -
1440x900 is a standard widescreen resolution and nvidia does support it. I have the nvidia 7800gt graphics card running my 20.1" widescreen at 1680x1050 res.
MickKnipfler, did you follow my advice to uninstall the plug and play monitor in device manager? Reboot and it should install the drivers again. See what happens.
f1charlie, it's width x height, not height x width0 -

I assumed it would be or else there would be a lot of unhappy widescreen users around; hence my confusion that it was not listed as a standard resolution.

The PC was working OK when I last logged off but now I get nothing on the screen!
The PC turns on and makes a strange noise, the light on the bottom of the mouse momenarily flashes and the screen then says "no signal present....
If I push F8 a few times while starting, the PC doesn't make the noise but I still get nothing....anybody got a skip?0 -

are you getting a series of beeps? you can usually tell the fault by noting how many long/short beeps you get!
