If I can back them up and you can talk me through it.

It sounds a bit drastic though for what is essentially a well spec'd machine
  • Okay, scratch that idea then.

It just seems there's a communication breakdown between your monitor driver and your GFX card.

I've checked the Hanns-G website for FAQs and it is utterly appalling! No help there, unfortunately.

Let me see if I can think of anything else.

    I have emailed Hanns-G

    Isn't 1440x900 a "standard resolution"?

    I think 1440x900 is standard for a 19" widescreen TFT - & it's certainly for this monitor.

You should contact Dell support really, as I don't think it's the monitor's fault (although I could be wrong).

That's what I though too, though they're using Vista.

Have you tried PowerStrip that I suggested earlier? Not free (though free to try), but at least it's a temporary measure till we can find a permanent one. G

Your link to Powerstrip has an extra 'l' at the end, so it is coming up with an error. The correct link is:

I haven't tried powerstrip yet. The situation though annoying, isn't unbearable. I'm sure it's something simple. I think there's an Nvidia driver update on their website

It tells me to temporarily disable anti-virus software first though....need to work out how to do that!
  • You should be able to disable your AV software by looking in the system tray, just to the left of the clock in the bottom right of your screen. When you find the icon for your AV program, right click it and choose 'Close' or 'Exit'.

It doesn't sound like a GFX card problem to me, though.

Have you had any response from your e-mail to Hanns-G yet?

I use AVG anti-virus so I'm sure I can swith it off....

    Nothing from Hanns-G no....
  • I also use AVG and when the Control Center (sic) is running, there's a small square with red, blue, yellow and green quadrants in the system tray. Just right-click it and select 'Shut down Control Center'.

I really can't think what could be causing this... As you say, it shouldn't require drastic action!

Shall I try downloading the latest Nvidia driver?
