It sounds like your the type of person who cannot distinguish the difference between a buyer and a seller.rustyboy21 wrote: »
You have just admitted that you do flout the laws, by your statment above. Giving false identification when asked for it for a legal document is illegal !
Sounds like you would be the type of person to demand a cash payment and give no receipt, so you didnt have to pay VAT, or dont you class that as a legal requirement?

How a customer in any store could demand the store give THEM a cash payment for one of their own products, is flabbergasting.
It really shows how LITTLE you know about law doesn't it.
I am under no obligation (LEGALLY) to give a shop my personal details, no different to Tesco demanding my address for my weekly grocery list.
The only time I should need a legal document with a store, would be either to purchase as part of a monthly payment scheme, or as an employer.
There is no such legal document I (the customer) am legally bound to sign up with in any shop. The most a shop can "legally" do, is refuse of sale, ergo I am happy to go elsewhere, as is my legal right.

Online sales systems no doubt flag up any tuner sales and send the delivery/billing address over to the licensing authority. The only time it's mentioned in shops is when it's a shop-floor 'take away' sale where there's no opportunity to gather the information a different way.0 -

They will have to give address details, which you have given when you arranged the delivery, so you are not being asked for the installation site.Whether it is a home address or the installation address , it does not matter, as long as they can fill in the address form. Lying about an address or giving false information is illegal.
Students, who take a TV to uni with them are normally covered under the accomodation they are living in.
I hate the fact that we have to pay the licence fee at all, it should be scrapped, but the argument on here is that sainsburys was in the wrong asking for the address details so they could fulfill their legal requirements.
Being an ar**hole with the staff, making yourself look like a to**er at the checkouts is really mature isnt it?( Marleyboy?)

Not if they are living in self contained accomodation which is almost always the case when staying in the Halls of residence of a Uni.
They will also need a licence if renting accomodation and have a separate tenancy agrement.0 -
This is especially for Marleyboy and those who think Sainsbuarys are being Jobsworths.
Who is breaking the law Marleyboy?
Why do television retailers record and pass information to TV Licensing about people who buy or rent television sets from them?
The Wireless Telegraphy Act 1967 (as amended) obliges retailers to notify TV Licensing of any sales or rentals of television sets. The Act specifies the type of information a retailer must record from someone who buys or hires a television set, which is then notified by the retailer to TV Licensing. Notification must take place within 28 days of the purchase or rental date. Failure to provide notification is an offence under the Wireless Telegraphy Act.
TV Licensing cross-references the notification against information in its database and if there is no record of a TV Licence at the address provided, a reminder letter is automatically sent to the address.
TV Licensing regularly provides retailers with information about their legal obligation to provide notifications, and visits retailers to verify compliance. TV Licensing may take action against retailers who don’t comply with the notification requirements under the Wireless Telegraphy Act.

There is nothing in either the act itself or the snippet that you posted that makes any mention of a consumer commiting any offence by failing to give truthful information.
The only offences covered is that of the retailer failing to abide by its requirements. The Wireless Telegraphy Act 1967 (as amended) obliges retailers to notify TV Licensing of any sales or rentals of television sets.

might help take heat of sales folks if the shop owners / manufacturers made it clear on the products themselves, that TVL require details..
whether its YOUR details, or a noisy neighbour who you suspect of not having a licence, is between you and your conscience!

The TV license form I use at work are on official paper and go in an envelope that goes right to the licensing authority. They don't go anywhere near anybody who would be putting them into a mailing database.0
