Sainsburys - don't want business

I bought a DVD recorder earlier this year and as it also has a TV tuner built in, I was required to give my details. When I filled out the form with an address in Lagos Nigeria, the sales assistant at first refused to accept it stating that it had to be a UK address.
I pointed out that this requirement isn't stated anywhere on the form and it had to to be the address where the equipment would be used, which in my case was Nigeria.
One not too happy sales assistant, but she eventually conceded the point and accepted the form.0 -

The customer service person was rude and officious, again she couldn't explain what law I would be breaking if I didn't fill it in. When I tried to explain that the TV would not be used at my address she just shrugged and handed me a pen. She was also being 'arsey' rolling her eyes and shouting, threatening to remove the TV from me. Good manners cost nothing.
Although many such things are a legal requirement, a lot of jobsworths like to make something of it. Their ignorance, aggressive behaviour and general bad attitude provokes the customer.
And here's an example:shaun_from_Africa wrote: »I bought a DVD recorder earlier this year and as it also has a TV tuner built in, I was required to give my details. I would have filled in the form giving the name and address of one one my neighbours, whom I know for a fact dosen't have a license.0

I agree that it is poor staff training and a stupid legal requirement. I must buy a dozen TV's/PVR's a year for my extended family. If I can be bothered and am prepared I put down TV Licensings Bristol address and postcode, other I make up a realistic but fake name and address. The man without a signature.0

What a bunch of moaning saddos. I bet Sainsbury's are quaking in their boots at the loss of your custom. Get over it and get on with it.0

You've no obligation to give them a real name and address, just something that they can put into their system. I just put one of my neighbour's addresses.poppy100

What's worse worried jim, someone who writes about their displeasure on a board entitled Praise, vent & warning, (which is exactly what is being posted), or some other saddo who feels the need to post without having anything relevant about the subject at hand but simply wants to see their own user id in print?0 -
My God, there are some really pedantic people on this thread !
It is a legal requirement to give your name and address when purchasing a TV or related product. All retailers have to do it, some hide the fact a bit more than others. How many times have you been to Maplins, Curry's etc and have been asked for your postcode and house no, when you ask why they say for the guarantee, you dont bat an eyelid. How do you think these retailers fill the forms in.
When I was 16 ( 29 years ago !) I worked for asda on the electrical dept, I sold TV's and filled in guarantee forms. What people didnt realise was that after they left I had to then fill the book in for the Licensing authorities.
I have recently gone out and bought a TV and a DVD recorder myself. On both occasions, Comet have asked for my house no and postcode for the guarantee. Weeks later I have had letters from the authorities stating that it appears I dont have a licence. The licence is in my partners name, so it shows up. They got my name of the debit card swipe in comet.
The letter was in NO WAY agressive as some have stated , took 30 seconds to fill in with my partners details and I have not heard anything since.
It is a law, you are not having your liberties infringed on, How often do Sainsbury's sell a TV compared to a tin of beans or a loaf, most staff on the tills are temporary, so have a a quick induction, for the likes of some of you, who would moan at having to queue up if they didnt have any staff, So my word to you all is 'GET A LIFE'
If you want to blame anyone, blame the BBC, there the ones wasting your bloody money !;)0
