    Hello all :j
Lovely day but very windy. Finished off first sleeve of baby jacket -I'm such a slow knitter.........thats another sleeve and two fronts to go before October !

OH decided to cook Sunday dinner ! He's sorted it all out ready, got a lift to the pub and says he feels a lot better today........best he's felt so far.....hope it carries on like that.

Keep looking at the freebie samples of tea and coffee I've got.........must make some little cards/sachets for them to go in for presents.
Neighbour brought round two little jars but no lids with them..........keep thinking they'll be something I can do with them but what ?? Ideas please ??

    Hope you're all ok:)

Thats brilliant about OH cooking dinner, he def sounds well on the road to recovery, and an outing to the pub.

Your doing well with the baby jacket, keep looking at the wool, and think i do need to get going, but something always gets in the way, need to get done as knitting an aran cardi for my aunt for xmas.

Glass jars, - what about painting them, maybe a sun or something like that on them and making them into tealight holders, look fab. xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Yes good idea about the glass jars Mum2one, I have seen them with some wire tied around them made into a rustic looking handle over the top and decorated with either paint or sticky back jewels that kind of thing stuck on them and a tea light in them.

Just as we were leaving for boot fair this morning it started to rain. We still went up there but most of the stalls were packing up so didnt really get a chance to get anything much. Just bought myself a little green photo frame to put something special in xx

    Hello all :j

Like the idea of painting the jars...........think I've got some glass paints in the drawer but I've had them a while now -years in fact......hope they're still ok. If not is there any other paint I can use ? Don't think I've got the right sort of stickers to put on but if painting will work that would be better

Bit of a grim looking day so can't see much sitting in the garden being done..............knitting maybe ? Or 'hunt out the glass paints'.............lol

mum2one -aaron knitting ?? Wouldn't know where to start with that...........lol

rufus - lucky you finding a little frame........I looked in the charity shops last week and they were all either very big or very 'naff'.......so no joy there

    Hope everyones ok:)

Hi all lovely to read all the latest posts,

Hope you have a good week with all your handicrafts, knitting and pressie shopping.

Mary re the jars. I keep small and tiny jars without lids e.g. if I'm making a recipe later in the day and want to get everything weighed up in advance, there are some ingredients that fit better into a small jar. I don't want lids as I've had many a struggle with sticky dough hands and a lid!

Or I put small things into them when I'm doing certain chores so they are easier to pick up and use eg pencils, small paint brushes, cotton buds, putting small elastic bands on the outside of the jar.

Clare, you could always get OH the 'Cooking with Dad' book LOL

Angela - nice idea but I've already got numerous pots and stuff that hold pencils, paper clips, rubber bands etc. As for cooking........well I'm the worlds worst to be honest so anything in that line is a no-no for me plus there's already loads of containers of sorts lining pantry shelves....lol

OH got lift to the pub again today to see his mates and thought he'd be able to walk to the bank........he did and now wishes he hadn't despite having his crutches.....now he's paying the price with back ache ! Know the feeling, I was the same when I first attempted the supermarket and I still suffer as a result but the feeling of achievement outweighs anything else
Think OH will feel better once he's seen the back specialist again. Still waiting for appointment to come through and he's due to go in 2 weeks.
Lady from surgical supports rang this morning to see if OH still needed a back brace..........his specialist had said he did but couldn't have one till his stomach had settled down so need to see back chappie about that.
Can see out days out this year will be little trips to hospital...............lol:)

    Hi all

Mary I'd temporarily forgotten about your home being full of covered tubs :) I was surprised to hear OH tried walking with crutches because of everything that's happened to him lately. I didn't realise he would be ready. He does sound in the wars.

Clare, I saw the author of the cookery book on tv, he was saying he left his very busy job to look after his son and started cooking with him and was writing it up on a blog for fun, it lead to the book.

I have a feeling there is more than one book with a title like this, I can't remember the name of the man I saw talking about it but there must be something about his background in the reviews to indicate it's the same person.

I've seen another one that is about fathers spending quality time with children and doing crafts, experiments, cookery etc. Can't remember the title.

I've got some more birthdays next week, let's hope I don't forget them too.

Angela - you not the only one guilty of forgetting birthdays, i turned my calender over to july by mistake, missed two and posted one early, i`m sure i`m cracking up

mary - OH seems as if he`s not letting it beat him, well done him....hows YOUR back these days?

Talking of men cooking, when I was in hospital, OH who cant cook in any way shape or form, used to take the kids to take away every night, it was a real battle getting them to eat normally again. And I `d advise cooking ASAP with little ones as DS is going to uni in september and tells me he be eating out every day, he says he cant cook and doesnt want to.....!!!! I wish I`d started him young instead of doing all the cooking

Susan - I started young with all my kids and cooking, youngest daughter can cook just about anything, she often cooks dinner for both me and her (OH wont eat if he knows shes cooked lol but he is just being awkward so he has to do his own or go without when he is in that kind of mood).

I had a bit of luck yesterday with the photo album for my brother, went to WH Smiths as seen a lot on their site recuced to half price but most of the ones I saw in the shop were just 10% or 15% off but could see a label on top shelf saying 50% off but couldnt work out which album it was as the bar code number on the label didnt match any of the album stickers. There were two large black ones left with a white pattern on suitable for a man, others were pink and purple. Took one to the desk to ask the woman to scan it for me and it was half price, was £9.99 so well within my budget.

Spent the afternoon filling it up, its one of those self adhesive albums where you lift up the plastic sheet. Just finished putting in 100 photos and went to beginning to look through and found the second and third pages empty lol must have missed them out so had to move everything along.

Still, got their in the end, and printed out some free embellisments I found on the intenet onto some photo paper so they looked nice and glossy and put these in as well and I am very pleased with the final result.

His party is not this Saturday but one after so nice to get it all finished in time.

Made a start on the front of a cushion for eldest daughter yesterday and picked up the denim quilt I started ages ago to get a bit more of that done. Wrote all my cards out for this month and youngest daughter's hair straighteners arrived so hers are ready for wrapping for next month.
