My local Lidl stinks though....they dont maintain it well at all, the veg aisle smells appaling and the staff are rude! You have to pay for bags (I paid 9p a bag last time as they had run out of others).

Im sorry but the one here is pretty downmarket, and I refuse to shop there anymore. Aldi however is much much better here, and some lovely things, great service etc too!

I've always thought their charging for bags was a good idea and because they were German and more eco-friendly? I never buy the bags anyway because they have lots of cardboard boxes around the shop that you can help yourself to and put in the re-cycling when you get home. My son usually has lots of fun playing with the boxes after we've been to Lidl, sad but true.

Don't bother with the lobster - not worth £4.99 - see this http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=3381493#post3381493
  • Totally agree, the lobster is not worth buying, not enough to warrant the hassle, but looks great as a starter if wanting to impress:))

Does any one know if the Goose / Duck / Venison are in the Swindon store yet?
I am sure I over heard one of the staff on Sunday saying about where to put them when they came into stock .... but maybe she was saying where they were last year.

    Thanks

    Hi
    Forum newbie here.
Found this site whilst doing a google for velvet crabs - currently in stock at Lidl!
Have bought a couple of the large crabs - which are BTW delicious, but don't know what to do with the packs of smaller velvet crabs, and judging by the huge stock in the freezer at my local Lidl, neither does anyone else!
Agree with the comments regarding the lobster - total waste of money. Bought one last year to cook on Christmas Eve, and ended up using it just as a starter - and not a very big one at that!
Ducks and Geese currently in stock, as are goose breast crowns, and duck breast. Haven't seen Venison yet - has anyone else?
Also, anyone seen any "specials" at Aldi??
  • Hi, please help!! - does anyone know if they have any geese in the Bangor or Holyhead store - I have just been to the Llangefni store yet again but they are sold out and will not be having any more in. I have promised my dad I will get him 3.

Hi softuk, and welcome, you'll find us a very friendly bunch here.

I agree about the velvet crabs, I've not a clue what to do with them either, and after the lobster I wasn't racing to buy them either.

No venison in my Lidl either, and the geese had all gone before they were due to arrive!

Well I've searched Google and Alta Vista, and there are lost of references to Velvet crabs, but no specific recipes apart from to say that they are "highly prized" on the continent! The only other reference I have found is on a menu where they were served as a starter with salad. I guess then you treat them the same way as an ordinary crab, just on a smaller scale!
