I have mentioned this in the Aldi thread as alot of Lidl/Aldi food contains hydrogenated oils which are 10x worse than saturated fats, you may be paying for the food with your health always check the labels ;)

    Have they got any stollen?

Our Lidl (Acocks Green, Brum) has already got the Xmas cakes and biscuits in. Two types of Stollen - whole or two 'minis'. Each is £1.79.

LOADS of different sorts of german gingerbreads.

You may want to check locally on availability for all this. Our manager didn't know what would arrive and when! The leaflet has a whole range of availability dates listed, but they usually get the stuff in before the scheduled date.
  • Our local Lidl has had stollen in for a week now, at £1.49. I'm a student and funnily enough a lot of other students in my town see Lidl as the real pits - somewhere where you go when you're completely broke.

Yes, there are a few dodgy bits in there, but for continental tastes you can't beat it. I think it's the complete opposite of downmarket - it's for people who appreciate simpler, more traditional tastes and flavours from across Europe - a treat!

Its a brilliant toy, one motor swings it around and another raises and lowers the hook to grab things. Impressively made for the price, the motors have clutches that slip if the child tries to jam it. Prevents damage and makes a noise the child can easily be taught means stop. I would say good for age range 4 to (erhum!) 42.

That looks fab Sillygoose, I'll have to try to sweet talk my FIL into taking me to the lidl here to try and get one for my ds, he would play for hours with that!

I would like to buy some more honey with apricots in, but can't remember where I bought it Lidl, or Aldi - did anyone else try it, and does anyone know where it was from.

Have they got any stollen? I am waiting for the cheap stollen to come through in Home Bargains, though I may have to make a special trip to Aldi if I can't wait. If you haven't tried stollen yet, give it a go. It is a really scrummy German almond cake-type thing. Tesco seem to view it as a luxury continental item and charge about £4 for one. In HB it was about 80p last year.

Yes they have got Stollen... as they do every Christmas season.

I'm a bit annoyed with them as they've usually charged around the £1 mark for it... this year they have the nerve to put up a sign saying it's been 'reduced from £1.69 to £1.49'. A classic Tesco/Sainsbury ploy which I thought Lidl usually avoided, to their credit.

I've always been keen on Lidl but I notice that increasingly you have to be careful that Tesco/Asda isn't actually cheaper for a particular item. Luckily I work in an area which has a Tesco and a Lidl virtually alongside each other...
