Thanks, Laura, I'll try Sainsburys - it's good to try different brands as each is a bit different.

I've also eaten stollen bought last weekend (Reading). It's a good one too and lasted just over a day!

has the new store opened in Reading yet?
i live in Basingstoke and we don't have Lidl, though they're opening one soon but it's going to be small.

someone told me there's a new lidle opening near the madesjki stadium and i never know where the existing shop is!!!

My local Lidl stinks though....they dont maintain it well at all, the veg aisle smells appaling and the staff are rude! You have to pay for bags (I paid 9p a bag last time as they had run out of others).

Im sorry but the one here is pretty downmarket, and I refuse to shop there anymore. Aldi however is much much better here, and some lovely things, great service etc too!

Last years Aldi "finest" christmas cake was too dry. Push a knife into it and it crumbled to pieces. We were handing out platefuls of bits to people!
Lidl stollen was v good though. We'll get that again. Home-made cake this year though.

Ours is the same its only been open just over a year as soon as you walk in it smells, the floor is dirty and some of the fruit and veg is rotten, the Aldi other side of town is totally the opposite lovely and clean and the manager is very helpful and goes out of his way to sort out problems

Already got my Aldi turkey crown in the freezer for the big day. Its basically just the breast off a humungous turkey (possibly an Ostrich I would say!), pre stuffed and basted and is fool-proof to cook. I think its a quid dearer this year at £9.99 but its all edible best quality breast meat so no waste and enough for everyone.

Talking of Lidl, I will be 1st in line on Monday (6th) for the Toy Crane which is a MEGA bargain. Bought it last year for my sons cousin and to be honest it was embarrassing because it looked like we had spent a lot to be flash (these usually cost about £20) when in fact we only spent £4.99!!

I will be getting one for my son who is old enough now and one to put aside for a gift.

Its a brilliant toy, one motor swings it around and another raises and lowers the hook to grab things. Impressively made for the price, the motors have clutches that slip if the child tries to jam it. Prevents damage and makes a noise the child can easily be taught means stop. I would say good for age range 4 to (erhum!) 42.

Lidl Stollen is excellent. Try wrapping it in foil and warming gently in the oven. Delicious.
