I have been unable to locate a locksmith who can get here before 2pm. Said car is purring away on my driveway. I had the genius idea of smashing the small side window and retrieving the keys/unlocking the doors, and worked out that through my insurance this will cost £50  or I can buy a window for £200. Locksmith will be around £60, but all the petrol will have gone by then. OH refuses to let me smash window, and has gone to his lockup unit for window suckers in the vain hope he can pull the window down enough to get at the lock. He won't be able to do it, and we will lose the fuel and the money for locksmith and/or new window. Lots and lots of diaphragmatic breathing going on in my house right now.
Try blocking the exhaust with something. You may be able to force it to stall. At least that way you might be able to buy some time and save some fuel.
And if you can do if before OH gets back then he'll be well impressed.
A post on the motoring forum might drag out a few more ideas. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I take no responsibility for any damage done to your car whilst attempting any of these things. Not sure the tennis ball will actually work but got to be worth a tryI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

OMIGod Jackie...I would have killed him by now so congrats on your patience!
Morning folks....we had more than a foot of snow yesterday evening, although OH hadn't any trouble getting to the village so we are now well stacked up with bread, milk, steak and sausages....no water but thats for after brunch! Only realised that we import salt from I think Turkey....what the fcuk is that about....we are practically surrounded by the bl**dy Atlantic...no wonder the country is in a mess!! I am really sick of this weather....it started to snow when I was on way to airport to go to Edinburgh on 27th November and lots of local roads have not been clear since.
DGS2 has had a nice present....a baby step sister called Hannah born last night on her mother's birthday...haven't spoken to Conan yet but I bet that he is all excited....think he would have preferred a brother but will be happy enough I am sure, he loves babies anyway.
Today is DD2's birthday, have sent her a text as think she is at work, will call her later....her present is somewhere in the maelstrom that is mail at present, but she knows its on the way. Apparently Dublin airport is operating with delays so hopefully Stansted is ok too...not sure what time DS2 is due to leave, he won't try to get home to-night but will stay with friends near town. Everything is easier in daylight.
So sorry to hear of people getting bad news healthwise, seems worse at this time of year even though it is never good. Hope that you get home to-day Molly. Hugs to those of you not feeling well at home, it will improve (wont it???)
Better do something useful....

Hello all,
feeling a bit down today, got barely any food and barely any money to buy food. OH has gone off in a strop because he doesn't connect the idea that if he goes to the pub this means less money to spend on other things. I've given up trying to reason with him, so he's going to have to learn the hard way- if he wants to go out with his friends and pretend like we're not skint, he'll have to go without food. Atleast i have 4 tubs of slimfast should things get really dire!
We've got about £70. £30 needs to go on presents and that leaves £40 - to me i could easily do a shop for £25 enough to see us through, we have things in the freezer and are going to his grandparents for Christmas dinner anyway!!!! But he's gone off in the truck saying there is no point in going now. I can't get to the shops so his loss, unless he wants me to go to waitrose and then the money really won't stretch!!
Got to tidy kitchen and bake my mum a birthday cake at some point before work today.
Quiche for lunch (reduced to 50p!)
Regretting saying i won't work next week a little. But I need break and OH isn't working right now and i don't see why it should always be down to me to make ends meet.
ARGH.

JackieG - hope you can get into the car!
Mrbadexample - hope you manage to get to your parents, which OSer is the nearest to you so you can go to dinner there?:D
just had a nice relaxing morning - could probably have made it into work so feel a bit guilty but as I'm working over Christmas I have decided to make the most of this unplanned day at home
Bramble - (((hugs))) sorry MrBramble is being so unreasonable, hope he sees sense and works with you towards Christmas. x xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Its all sorted now. He followed the suggestion from Bitsy to remove the wee back window seal with a stanley knife, levered it out from the clips with a screwdriver and its now back on, siliconed into place with window silicone, and the strip back on. Did have a hairy moment trying to open the doors, it wouldn't let us open them from inside, so had to reach the window buttons with a brolly to put the front window odown and take the keys out! :rotfl: Looks almost but not quite as good as new.
Thanks for your help, hope I've given you a laugh.
I posted on the motoring forum too, they were saying pretty much the same. And thanks also to MBE, I did stall it, just in case. I am off to poison his lunch now.
