Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wed 22nd Dec. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning All
No more snow here but still very cold.
OS plans for today include shopping & cooking.
DD2 took me to the butchers to collect my meat order & I bought the veg whilst I was there, she offered to take me to Tesco with her, but I had to refuse as I was due to meet DD1's social worker, the social worker was a no show.
Today's challenge is how to get my grocery shopping without a car, I've dug out my freezer bag & will go on the bus, I don't need any frozen food, but the bag has a shoulder strap & will be easier to carry, thank heavens I don't need much!
Hugs to those in need.
Keep warm & safe everyone.
Hugs Hester

Once in royal David's city
Stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her Baby
In a manger for His bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ her little Child :xmassmile
In my calendar - a bear.
Morning :santa2:
Hester, how annoying re the social worker.
Mioliere, good news?
Molly, hope you're home for Christmas.
Mum actually turned up yesterday to go shopping. I told her mr tru was off work but she came anyway. I think she must be very bored at homeMorrisons was heaving, and whoever said there's a shortage of sprouts was lying, Morrisons have mountains of them
I'm eating breakfast by fairy lightsI had 2 spare sets, so have plugged them in the kitchen. Our friend is coming round today to fix the downstairs lights. Master tru admitted that he made a slight mistake (!) when fixing the fitting back on, last week. Trouble is, the ceiling is now plastered so we have to empty our bedroom for our friend to access the wire and replace it.
I bought some curtains for the french doors in the kitchen, I've put them up for now but I need to take them back down today, they're about 3ft too longIf I'm careful when I cut them, I can make another pair for the window.
I think the electrics and curtains will take up most of my day. Specially the electrics - he'll arrive late morning, have coffee and a cig. Do a bit of work, have a coffee and a cig. Repeat x10 :rotfl: Somewhere in the middle I'll make him a bit of lunch.
I'm done with the shopping. I'm not buying anything except milk and fresh fruit for the next 2 weeks.

Hi Guys,
Many thanks for the good wishes.
Im still here but feeling much better and really hoping that i will get home today.
Hugs xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Morning all. My little diet is keeping me awak, six hours light sleep last night boo, but I feel okay.
Plan for today is lots of revision, going to prep notes for one of my four modules, then clear some snow. It's really bad on the cul-de-sac type thing where I live, it's only gonna get worse as the inches of snow on the road turn to ice and it'll keep me busy!
molly41, good luck getting home, i'm sure you will
hope everyone else and their relatives and friends shake these colds! Tonsilitis has subsided and left me with a horrible cough, and all my family have coughs too! Sister has been working at the florist (wellies, gloves and coats jobbie) and sounds like death!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Morning all
Didn't get on pc yesterday so will catch up with yesterday's post's later when I get chance.
Feeling a bit brighter today, have decided I need to address this on-going problem, it's not bad depression but occasionally completely consumes me. I don't normally suffer with depression only now and then and I've never needed strong meds, counselling etc to help with it. Have been on some meds but very mild, I'm not on them now and not actually sure whether they did help or not! Sometimes I have so much going round in my head, things from the past and present I feel that I just need to talk to someone neutral where I could just let it all out, think I'm going to investigate counselling services. I do feel that I should have had counselling after losing our daughter when I was 17 weeks pregnant, but spoke to GP at the time and he thought as I was talking about it I didn't need counselling! I wish now I'd been more insistent.
Very light dusting of snow on top of the ice, making walking and driving interesting! Last day at work for me today until January 5, yippee, really ready for a break and some quality time with DH and boys. DH finishes Xmas eve and off until 4 Jan, it's a long holiday this time with the bank hols, be good break for him as always he's been working really hard to keep me in the lifestyle I've become accustomed to!!! Haha! More like keeping a roof over our heads, feeding everyone, and paying the bills, just about covers it! Boys been away since Monday and I'll collect them this afternoon once I finish work, be good to have them back, house seems so quiet without them, and I miss them loads.
DH and I finished up having a takeaway last night, so not very OS but nice not having to cook, tonight's dinner is LO's from roast that need clearing up and tomorrow we'll have gammon, egg, chips (jacket pot for me). Only need very few bits today as fresh meat hamper and fresh fruit and veg ordered and I just go and collect on Xmas eve, so don't need to go near the supermarkets, have done this for the last 4-5 years as butchers and fruit and veg man are in a local village, quality and value for money at both is excellent. Will just need to go to bank on xmas eve also but after that it will be home and just getting jobs done, ready for the big day on Saturday.
Looking forward to tomorrow as going to see my friend and her baby to take their gifts, will have coffee and chat. Haircut tomorrow too, so I look half decent.
Need to get organised for work.
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

morning all!
we have lots of SNOW:eek::snow_grin
six to 8 inches overnight in our garden. I rang into work to say I wasn't going to drive in - its 10 miles but I'm not a confident driver in winter weather and luckily there are people there who live within walking distance of work so I'm not leaving them in the lurch. DH had a lie in and went in to work at 6.30 - hoping to get out later and make some deliveries.
The dogs are loving the snow - Louie had dug his ball out of the snow and they've been racing around the garden having fun together.
I've de-snowed the bird feeders and put them some water out.
DS2 is worrying about how his GF will get to us later on but DH will pull out all the stops to get her here.
DS1 is stranded in Worcester atm but is stopping at a friends.
Might make some cheese and potato pie later as I didn't get round to it last week - its nice comfort food.
Molly - hope you manage to get home! x
Bitsy - hope you got lots of snow!:D
Halight - how much snow have you got?
have a great day all, keep warm and safe x
just wanted to share some good news with you - my cousin gave birth to her first baby 3 hours ago:T:j dont know any details but think she is going to be called Victioia after our late nan.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Morning All,
Check me out, on here before 8am:D
Molly & Moliere fingers crossed for good news for you both today.
Am up early as DP has to do his Christmas shopping today (roll eyes) So I thought I'd pop in to Aldi to pick up some cheese, veg & catfood. I'm sure our cat eats more than the rest of us put together, he certainly seems to need a lot of fuel to keep him sprawled out wherever is warmest.
Still keeping an anxious eye on weather, 7 seater is booked for tomorrow so all being well all the family will be here for Christmas:jReally want to give DD2 some mummy hugs & love, she's been having such a hard time lately:(
Right I'm off to get turkey out of the freezer as I am doing all my cooking Friday night so I can enjoy the big day.
Hugs, spoons, hi5's & best wishes all round.
Have a good day

Good Morning Everyone.
Taplady - I'm with you regarding driving in snow - I've decided it's something I will just no longer do! Many years ago my Mum (then younger than I am now!) decided she would no longer go on escalators, which she hated. It was incredibly inconvenient, especially when she had to get across London to visit us - but she stuck to her guns! I figure I'm now old enough to also decide when I no linger want to do something which stresses me - and I've decided it will be driving in snow and ice!
Need to walk into town to get my hair done this morning, followed by a trek across to Mr T's where a group of us are due to be singing carols for a local charity for an hour. Long trek back home...long trek this evening to the Rotary dinner. Am not going to the gym - I think I'm getting quite enough exercise as it is!
Did the rest of the food shopping yesterday, plus shopping for our elderly neighbours - DH drove! I found plenty of sprouts too!
DS kept in hospital overnight. not sure what will happen today. And no, his ex plus DGD have still not got on a flight to Germany - think she is now resigned to spending Christmas in the UK - but very annoyed at having wasted a week's holiday from work.
Oh well, must takw DH his morning tea and get the doggies fed and walked. Hope you all have a good day - keep warm and safe!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
morning all
Did last shift yesterday till 4th Jan:j. Been a depressing couple of days as had a few people in my clinic diagnosed with cancer which we found we could only offer palliative treatment for:o.....some were only late 40s/early 50s....what a christmas for them. Had a couple of moments when I had to go an compose myself in a quiet room:o.
Sainsbugs shopping coming today then am all ready for Christmas. DH finishes on Fri afternoon for a week hopefully. He has only had 1 weeks hol this year so I think he is due one. He is a plumber and heating engineer so ends up getting called out loads.
DS still stressed by Christmas etc but hopefully can try to calm him over the next day or so. Have to try to make sure we dont hype it all up too much. an understated christmas.
HM chicken chow mein for tea ( sausage and mash for DS).
Very cold here and has snowed a bit overnight but not much disruption thank God. Had enough of that before the wedding:eek:.
hope everyone stays safe and warm and those travelling to loved ones get there safely and on time
xx
Ooooh I forgot...in the New year DH has agreed to us getting a couple of chickens:T:j:j so am looking into that and the best housing for them etc.0 -

taplady congrats
nmlc enjoy seeing your friend today!
The celebrations were great. lots of activities for the kids, from mask making to building rope sculptures which were burnt as part of the celebrations. Then right at the free mince pies and hot mulled wine:D.Still managed to spend £24 on food, drink, travel and seeing santa, but still the boys loved it.
Today were off to brave the cold, snips is having a hearing test, so will my mum, brother and dad they xmas pressies, then all that's left is OH's lot.
Then come back, paint the clay figures the boys made and wrap them for christmas day.
If we have time another snow ball fight!
Have great day peeps!0
