Is it a 5KW stove? Your room dimensions sound about the same as mine so maybe it's undersized for the room like mine is. I really have to feed mine to maintain 21C temps when it's sub-zero outside which is a real pain. What I do now instead is the use the stove as background heat (use much less fuel) and just top it up with my heat pump, which cuts in and out as the room temp fluctuates between 21 and 22C.

Edit: I see it's an 8KW stove which should be more than enough to heat that sized room. However, you can't expect a room that size to be heated from say 12C to 20C in just 90min

You may have saved £100 but if your house burns down you wont have a valid insurance policy as you wont have the required HETAS certificate.

Now, now - you know as well as I do that a HETAS certificate is not compulsory. There are other schemes and it can also be inspected and passed by the local building standards bod.

You have to watch these private monopolies like a hawk.

Still, as crp says, it sounds like the stove and the installation are wrong. So why on earth waste yet more money on a no-name stove to replace it?! There are plenty of lower cost stoves that work well enough. Buy something that has the backing of a reputable manufacturer behind it - don't throw good money after bad!

Do you need a certificate to be permitted to fill the log basket & coal scuttle?
My wife seems to think so. Just a matter of time.

Dont forget, hard hat, steel toed boots and a elf and safety certificate in manual handling :D
  • so if my house burns down due to the stove my insurance wont pay out?

what if it already had a coal fire im sure i didnt have to tell them how my house was heated.

i might get building control after ive got a proper flue liner fitted anyway

There's no way that will put out 8kW. You may struggle to get your money back still though as it will probably say 'up to' 8kW. Nice little get out clause. They're only the size of a Dunsley highlander 5. If Dunsley can only get 5kW out of theirs then I doubt the Chinese could do any better.
  • i know now, the advert on ebay says nominal output 3-8kw lol

im gonna save up and buy a better one next autum
