Just re-jigged your post a bit, that assessment rate money is what he's supposed to be living on. ESA+HB+CTB etc is often more than some people earn working, you should be able to budget enough to pay your heating from ESA at the assessment rate.
Both my husband and I were both working, earning enough to get by, pay the mortgage, council tax etc...
Suddenly on of those wages (the higher one) has gone because his company sacked him for ill health.
Because I work to pay the mortgage and pay the council tax we are not entitled to any HB+CTB. So, from a normal living wage he has gone to 65.00 per week.. The only way we would end up better off is if I packed in work and became a sponger which I dont want to do. So, we have to choose between a roof over our heads or being warm, being in prison for not paying our council tax or eating!!0 -

Debt free wannabe board are good for tips on how to cope after losing a wage, as is the oldstyle board.
Your husband is receiving the same every week as many who have lost their jobs through redundancy but they'll get kicked off their benefit after 6 months and need to rely on their partners wage. They also don't get to look forward to a years worth of backdated premiums once everything is sorted.0 -

And maybe, just maybe, they will be able to get another job as they have still got their health. And, if Atos got it right in the first place they wouldnt have to be paying backdated premiums (which should have been paid in the first place). I know that we would sooner my husband have his health and still be in his job. By the way, he has worked for 38 years and NEVER claimed a thing.. I dont feel like its to much to ask for some help when its really needed, but some people on this board seem to think that everybody is out for what they can get. I can asure you that this is not the case!!0 -
