Can't answer all your questions as I have not tried myself, however I am seriously considering it.

I have heard GiffGaff runs on the 02 network which itself boasts (or at least used to) that it has the best UK coverage of all the mobile networks.

The O2 network coverage has been slated by OFCOM

Additionally i would recommend against using the O2 network with an OSF - The network will only send receive MMS at a tiny 25K, so it's rubbish for sending pictures

And you post this on the Orange SF thread? Slightly confusing...

Unfortunately, not all of us have the £££ or credit rating to afford the best model on the market. SF looks like a good deal to me, does everything I want it to and perhaps for this reason others are also interested. For £100 your not going to get an all rings and bells fantastic handset, but comparing to those 4 times the price, it does seem value for money to me.
I haven't ever used my mobile to send picture messages in the past 3 years. Mainly because I could not get a reception with 3 Mobile- I used to be with 02 and never had an issue with coverage.

He is correct though. Last time I saw OFCOMs coverage guides O2 were worst network for 3G.

Wow! Am starting to wonder if I should bother with a mobile at all now! Having just dumped 3-mobile, where I had no signal for 75% of the time and when I did it was only when walking along the street, no signal inside a building, now I find other say 02 are even worse? Maybe I'd be better of without!!

I have had an Orange pay as you go phone for a while and recently decided to go on pay monthly and get an android phone (I already own android tablet and love android applications).
I was considering HTC Desire but decided to go for Orange San Francisco instead.
I asked Orange for my PAC code few days ago and today when it arrived I phoned them up to find out what they can offer me.

In the end I agreed for Orange San Francisco on 18 months contract which includes 200 mins, free texts, 250 MB free data for £15 per month.
200 mins is more than I need and 250 MB data is a bit too little but I will be mostly using WIFI for internet access.

However I am wondering if it was smart to commit to 18 months for a relatively unexpensive phone such as Orange San Francisco? perhaps it would be better to buy it from Argos and sign a sim car deal instead?

On the other hand, this is a better deal compared to the online deals that I see available on Mobile Phone Checker.

What is the main difference between OSF and HTC Desire except camera?

I am considering to call them and cancel.

I decided to cancel the contract following the advice received in this thread, I refused the delivery of the phone but they still did not receive it, although their system shows that it is being returned to them since last 4 days. Unfortunately my Pay as You Go simcard stopped working 5 days ago as they transferred it to Pay Monthly (which I refused), and I cannot reactivate it until they actually get the phone back. I was on phone with them every day last week and some of the people I spoke to were unhelpful or gave me incorrect info. This is lot of hassle.

After this contract is cancelled next week, I will call Orange and try to buy this phone with a discount, if not, I will see Argos, but none of the Argos shop carries this phone in my area, out of stock.
  • I ordered San Francisco from Orange, they offered £79 after I told them I read on internet Orange offers discounts for its pay as you go customers. It was first person I called and very easy.

Can the orange rep tell me whether the public services discount (I believe is 20%) can be combined with the £30 existing orange customer discount?

I'm in the same position. I've got my PAC for Three having been with them for about six years and have a giffgaff sim activated and good to go (uses O2 network).

I've seen a drop in signal I get on the Three network lately and when I take it out and about I sometimes struggle for a signal. I'm loathed to move unless I'm absolutely sure because I won't get my £5 deal back from Three once I cancel it. The O2 signal seems comparable in the places I've tried but I read what others say and get cold feet about moving.

BTW to come back to the topic, I've had a San Francisco (unlock it before you change the s/w) and now I've got a Desire. Apart from the camera and the odd feature, there isn't really a huge difference between them (especially once I removed the HTC Sense rubbish) so the SF is a good buy where ever you buy it :)
