Really confused..... I'm a very low user of texts/minutes with the occasional need for more minutes (usually during family illnesses etc)

Just signed up to Orange - San Francisco - on pay monthly:
    £10.21 for 50 mins/unlimited texts/250mb - first month free

Is this a bad deal? I would prefer to stick to orange as good network coverage so wouldnt consider switch to 3 etc.

Orange have sim only deal - top up by £10 - 600 texts/free internet - Dolphin deal - so the £10 top up would pay for approx 50mins mob to mob. But then would have to pay for phone on top...

(So confused by all the tarrifs/phones out there... was going to switch to Virgin but treated so badly will not be going with them)

    HELP! :o

So your effectivly paying £10.21 for 24 months, = £245.04

I was thinking of the SF but unlocking and then a giffgaff sim. Not sure on what your looking for data wise but giffgaff offer for £10 a month, 250 mins unlimited text, unlimited web. Then you buy the handset separatly, think argos have it for £89 but think I also remember someone else getting it online for £79, but for arguements sake will go for £89. This combined with the giffgaff data package works out to £89+(£10 for 24 months)= £329 so I make that a better deal- but only if you are happy with the data package and know you wont go that far over. Giffgaff offer a sim which has just unlimited texts for £5 a month and then would make it cheaper by just under £40 over 2 years but most people do more then just text.

Sounds like an OK deal for you- for me it wouldn't work -I need data more then 250mb but if you don't then yours is better.

Thanks for the advice - think I should be OK with 250mg limit - spoke to orange and said as long as I don't download email attachments and try to download apps via wifi - it should be OK and if I go over its only 5p per mb which sounded pretty good to me. Will have to keep a check on usage the first couple of months though.

Thought I was pretty up to date with modern technology - but obviously not - need to get my head around this android thing - and understand how to get rid of all orange preset apps to free up space for the apps I really want... I'm sure my son will show me how!
  • Rang orange CS today - they only had an option to go to the orange shop and use my phone fund (only have £1.50 heh!)

Followed that - got through to an Indian callcentre - he put me through to another deaprtment in the UK

I said I had heard about the offer for £79 (including topup) - he asked me to confirm my details - then he said 2 offers were available to me
    1) £79 PAYG
    2) Free mobile £10/month on PAYM (the deal offered to leezuk1)

I asked for option 1 - he sorted it out very quickly and easily

Orange have bad rates for data - and I get bad signal for other providers - but I will mainly be using it on wi-fi rather than 3g so not that much of an issue

I just took out a contract with Orange for my daughter. They are out of stock on the Sanfransico so I took the Samsung Monte not as good a phone but the deal I took is good.

50 mins/unlimited texts/250mb data a month. £10.21 a month went through quidco and will get £150.00 cashback hopefully. It is a two year contract but with the cashback it works out I will be paying £3.96 a month.

Found the deal on HUKD anf thought it was worth it as long as I get my cashback.

Just keep an eye on her data and minutes use. Having seen numerous parents have to pay off large bills (I work in education) I would have stuck to payg and paid a bit more for the handset :)

I was told that if I went beyond the 250mb it would cost 5p per mb which didn't seem that much to me when they put it that way as hope to keep an eye on usage although didn't realise that the balance is not in 'real time' as it is for pay as you go. I'm sure they could do it but is a sneaky way of making people go over their balance.....
