Yup. The kettle just blew. We do currently have a fan heater and a halogen heater on the go. We've also got the stove on constantly in the kitchen to prevent the pipes from freezing again.

For now I would forget about that firm and get it repaired by some one else like Britishgas who will do a fixed price repair which I think is around £200.Then chase the other firm for a refund through the small claims court,no way shoulkd a repair drag on this long most parts can be obtained same day0

Thanks jcb208 - giving them a ring this afternoon!! xWINS 2012 Cheque £50 - Fearless Fred0

You can make a claim through 'the small claims court' online now.

It's easy, I did it and got a ccj for £1,800 against a high st furniture retailer which they paid immediately it was issued.

millystar,
This was on the lunchtime news I'm afraid. We've also had to have nPower engineer out and although they offer a similar service to BG they are only dealing with members at the moment. I don't know what to suggest other than trying other power companies who may offer a similar service. Does Trading Standards have an approved list of plumbers/engineers in your area? What about the GasSafe website? Do they have an approved list local to you?
Sorry not much help I know but thinking of you.

brrr... Hi guys - thought I'd give you all an update. It's now exactly 31 days since our first contact with A1 Gas Services in Stoke on Trent. Thankfully the snow's all melted and we're back from the minus degrees!
Our four year old had an enjoyable Christmas, but we now suspect she's got the flu. She's been staying with my mother in law through the roughest of the weather - thankfully she's been so so helpful.
The engineer has just been out and put in a new board, told us the boiler's leaking and that he needs a new expansion vessel and expansion joint... no mention of the bracket he previously mentioned.
Anyway - apparently this new board has cost us an extra £300, the pressure board will cost an extra £280 and the joint an extra £100, plus labour "obviously". Again, he has no idea how long it's going to take to get these parts or indeed how long it will be before the boiler will be in a working condition. He's also put the board in and left the leak, dripping onto the board, no doubt so that it will corrode again before he can make another visit to us when he's finished all his jobs (aka in another two weeks).
We've contacted another plumbing firm who are coming to give us a free quote, as we've no intention of getting this so called engineer back out to touch the boiler again - but we're now quite worried that we owe £600 to the first engineer (you should know he only told us he'd fitted a new board, after he'd done so) on top of whatever the new firm quote us.
To be honest I'm getting incredibly depressed about the whole situation now. I am sick and tired of being ill, and cold. We've got several heaters around the house, and are putting on around £20 on the meters every three days to run them.
And - btw - the new firm are coming out in the next half an hour!WINS 2012 Cheque £50 - Fearless Fred0 -
Report them to Gas safe, refuse them access to your property, and don't pay them. This level of customer service is unacceptable
Have you checked their credentials to be able to work with gas boilers ?0
