I see big issue sellers in the city centre sporting the newest trainers i even seen one with an iphone the other day. I have debt collectors knocking on the door.people get themselves in debt then expect people to help them out...it doesnt work like that.I borrow off family every week
So you spend over a grand on each of your kids every Christmas yet wear clothes with holes in?? Your kids would be overjoyed with just a fraction of what you claim to spend on them at Christmas, then you could put the extra towards the debt collectors you claim to have knocking on your door. £20 on packed lunches and another £20 on treats? No wonder you are in debt.Nuts oh Hazelnuts:rotfl:0 -
I think lots of posters have been very harsh on the OP. Some very good suggestions among other posts.
I agree. I did have a peek through some of Raksha's posts and all I did notice was someone who has obviously taken the time to help out lots of other mser's with advice, particularly on the pets forum.
We always had to ask and I would expect the same from my children. They have free grabs on the fruit bowl, though.
As an aside, those cranberry and macadamia cookies sound amazing, Raksha. Any chance of the recipe, please? ( And I love macadamias and know they are bloomin' expensive) .0 -
Maybe we are missing something with the OP -I've read a bit further on her other posts in the linked thread and what worries me re her OH is that perhaps he is taking it out on her in some way if he comes home and finds that there are no treats or cookies or whatever ....Sorry if I am out of line OP just thinking out loud. Hope all goes well xxNuts oh Hazelnuts:rotfl:0

wow. I was going to post a reply but after skimming through I donn't know where to start lol.
I was just going to say that I have a problem with my OH using things up and not telling me. What really winds me up is I usually go for *missing items* when I've just come back from shopping. Anyway, I digress. Maybe hes a bit old for this but could you not involve him in the shopping, give him a section of the budget to allocate on treats for him?0 -

monkeyfish9272 - No idea what you sell on e-bay etc but not all people have that option. We as a couple haven't really got anything of value and what is of value we use and can't sell to get money. It still comes down to the fact that you spend more on each child for Christmas than a lot of people do for the whole of Christmas and yet you say you are struggling to make ends meet. It makes me laugh to be honest.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -

Actually, Doom and Gloom it makes me want to weep. I am lucky enough to have a good job, be healthy and not need benefits, but I have to say when I see posts like those of monkeyfish and witness friends of mine on benefits splashing the cash at every opportunity, whilst DH and I are managing ,just managing to give our kids a nice Christmas with me working full time plus agency work and OH working around my shifts it makes me wonder about the system in general. But that's another topic lol let's not go there
Merry Christmas:xmassmileNuts oh Hazelnuts:rotfl:0 -
Its getting a bit confusing - having what is virtually a thread to do with another poster interweaving with this one (ie Monkeyfish's comments and the responses to them).
Can we just stick to the thread itself - and not have this side issue going on within it?0 -
My mum was very strict when I was living at home. The only 'snack' we could have was two biscuits with a cup of tea in the morning and the evening. Even then we had to ask for permission. My brother would steal food, and I say steal because we didn't have permission to eat those things. He is 21 and still takes stupid amounts of food out of the cuboards now when my parents are out or in the night (he doesn't buy his own food or pay board btw). I feel this is partly due to my mum not allowing us eat snacks when we were hungry although she is much more lienant now with my teenager sister and my brother but he still takes food in secret. He has bad eating habbits and eats a lot of junk in secret. My son is only 2 but I never want him to think he can't ask for something to eat when hungry.0

Don't worry about me - he's not a violent man these days, but he does have a rant and a rave - never raised a finger to me or the boys - but when he gets annoyed/frustrated we get long 'family meetings' where he tells us how it's going to be in future (I used to write this all in a notebook - the 'family bible' - until it started to backfire on him when we pointed out things that he'd said he would do and he didn't) I hate these meetings, as they always end in even more frayed tempers.
Infact he called one tonight - so he could make a list of things everyone wanted for christmas - the oldest said he'd been promised some beer, which OH immediatly denied - cue another family row:(
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

So a bit of a caricature, but we have kids who don't do as they are told, because they know full well that if they do as they were told yesterday they will be told today they are in trouble for not doing as the person doing the telling tells them he told them yesterday. And an inconsistent control freak wondering why there is no self discipline.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
