Amazon Shipping Dilemma!

Options
Argh!

I decided to splash out on a Kindle for my Christmas present this year but only left it until earlier this week to order since I was worried that if it turned up too early I'd end up opening it before Christmas (hehe :p) but now it turns out it might be too late.

I ordered it with free super-saver delivery and it estimates a 23-31st delivery (it's, essentially, not gonna arrive on time with it). The Kindle has a dispatch estimate of 20th-24th. The last day for 1st class posting is the 21st so I'm unsure what to do. I've got these options:

1. Stay with free shipping and get it sometime after Christmas (likely after new years)
2. Get 1st class delivery for £5.80 and hope that it is dispatched before the 21st, meaning I'll get it on time according to Royal Mail.
3. Pay for £7 expedited shipping which means I could get it within 1-2 days of dispatch, making it more likely I'll get it on time.

It's only a present for myself but I really don't want to end up with nothing on Christmas day! Is it worth getting the extra shipping or not? Show me the way MSE Forums! <3

I would pay for the extra shipping - it will be worth it to have your present at xmas. You don't want to be sat there on xmas day feeling bad you don't have anything for the sake of a few pounds.
  • Can you sign up for free amazon prime trial? if so re-order with Prime delivery and cancel the other one.
I have to say though last year I got everything in time, even those items which had post xmas estimated deliveries initially.
    Good luck whatever you decide.

    Martin's money mantras:

"Will I use it" - not really applicable

"Have I checked if it is cheaper elsewhere" - again, not applicable.

"Is it worth it" - only you can decide. But in my opinion, getting an expensive treat of a christmas present on time would definitely be worth an additional £7.

Thanks for the advice, guys. If the MSE forums think it's probably worth the extra £7 then I'll go for it :) I was just struggling over the mantra of 'is it worth it?' my mum thinks no, my brother thinks yes (he just wants to see the kindle) but I'll go for it. I don't want to be left without a proper present on Christmas day :(

@bigmuffins - Thanks for the suggestion but I already used up my Prime trial a few months back :( I should try and save my next one for Christmas if possible since it's probably the best time to use it.

Admittedly we haven't had much snow, but the couple of items I've ordered off Amazon with free supersaver del lately have arrived very quickly.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

We've not had much snow either but I recently ordered something on super saver, about 9 days ago actually, and it's still not arrived. There must be something obstructing between me and the depot, I've had problems with other post too, getting to places =/ Not sure why, we never had *lots* of snow in Manchester and it's all gone by now.
  • I would pay the £7 to definitely get it on time to avoid disappointment.

Me and my husband are currently at home waiting for a kindle from Amazon and my sons is at my sisters house waiting for us to come - the reason - we paid £7 to get it so it was here today and we could go and be with my son but because Amazon have f**ked up we are apart from our son waiting another day for the kindle

We will be getting our postage costs back and I DO NOT recommend paying £7 as it hasn't got us anywhere.

I'm not normally this angry about things but I'm very upset at the moment I should be starting my christmas holidays with my family instead I'm waiting for Amazon to get their act together.
