    I own a Morphy Richards - but not a FASTBAKE :o

I tend to stick to either Pizza Dough - which I have a great recipe from Queenie for - much better than the one in the MR Instructions Booklet, or French Bread, as you don't use milk powder or butter. I use Olive Oil in place of butter - it makes a great Dairy Free alternative. A friend of mine who's daughter has a dairy allergy put me on to it, and I think it makes a much lighter loaf.

The bread mixes that you can get from Tescos are pretty good - you only need to add water. We've tried the Cheese and Onion and also the Ciabatta mixes, both were really good.

I don't tend to store my bread - I find that after a day - its only good for toasting.

My Fastbake should be delivered on Monday.:j
This will be my first breadmaker.

To start with I thought I'd try Asda's own-brand Fast Action yeast and Strong white flour. I've got Flora sunflower oil in already.

Think I'll try a basic white loaf to start and see how things go. I fancy giving a malt loaf a go or mixed fruit loaf but I'd like to get a start on something simple.

Just out of interest, when the unit signals that fruit can be added, do you simply lift the lid and throw the fruit in or pause the bread making process somehow?

My BM is a Fastbake (just had to run in kitchen and check:rolleyes: )
So can I join the club pleeeease?
I am afraid that I am not very adventurous, I find that there are sooo many things that my lot don't/won't eat.
I tend to make an awful lot of cinnamon and raisin loaves, as these don't seem to last 2 seconds (especially when hot and smothered in butter:cool: ).

I have tried the fastbake bread, but found it too doughy and heavy which is a bit dissappointing.

lynzpower - I find that wrapping the bread in foil keeps it nice and fresh even when sliced.

as759 - I just lift the lid when I hear the bleep and throw the fruit in.

    Hi

My MR FB BM is my 3rd breadmaker, the 1st 2 were hinaris. One was brilliant (I got it second hand for £40 when they were over £80 new) but I wore it out with using it so much! Then my MIL gave me hers, cos she couldn't get on with it & I had been raving about mine so much. But even though that was the updated version of the one I had it was a b s o l u t e l y AWFUL!
I ended up just using it for dough.

Then I saw a MR FB on ebay, and got it for £10 - we collected it as it was not far from where we live.
It is brilliant! As I said on the other thread, my family love the fastbake loaf! Well, I am not complaining cos it is easy to get it ready in less than an hour.

I use whatever strong flour is to hand - if I go to Lidl in the big town I stock up as it is a couple of pence cheaper, but otherwise Tesco or Morrison's own brands are fine, as they are the shops in our small town.
The large Tesco in the big town also does Allinsons yeast in bigger packets, which works out cheaper than the sachets. I keep it sealed and in the fridge, and have no problems.
As for milk powder, earlier this year Iceland had huge bags of Marvel milk powder on sale for about £1. So I bought one - actually it was the last one they had - and am still using it. I decanted the milk powder into a sealable container (Ikea) and it is fine.
I costed the loaf to just over 20p, so probably under 30p including electricity, although that is just a guess. Anyway, a lot cheaper than bought bread, and has more flavour and substance to it!

I have one of those! I like the sandwich loaf best and I put a cup of wholemeal flour in instead of one of the white and it's yummy!

I put my bread in an old (empty and washed out obviously!) ice cream tub, the Tescos ones are exactly the right size for a one and a half pound loaf! I find my bread keeps forever! My record is five days (before you ask, no I don't know how!) although it usually gets eaten long before then!

I use own brand flour and yeast, I started off with hovis because it was on offer but I've found own brand (Tescos) is just as good :-)

  • Bread keeps better if you keep it in the fridge, too :)

    Hello

I've had my MR FB BM for a week now. I've managed to make only 1 nice loaf out of 4 so far, but I've enjoyed trying..... :) I think I was using too much yeast (from the sachets) and the bread rose but then collapsed before it was done.

I have made my own bread bag by folding a thin linen tea towel (the 50p ones from IKEA are ideal) and sewing up 2 sides, leaving just one of the short sides open. It allows the bread to breathe but keeps it moist at the same time - then I just leave it on the worktop or stick it in the cupboard if ther's space. Worked really well to keep the single successful loaf fresh a couple of days.

    Anyone

I have done my empty bake cycle for 10 mins and Im about to get stuck in

    A few points/ questions

    1. the tin seems really hard to get out, especially with oven gloves on. Does this get easier? What can I do to stop it being so stiff to move. Got a cracking burn on my arm from it, and no loaf yet

2.does the BM have to be completely cool before adding ingredients?
