the reports are pretty much everywhere.

    Wow.

I guess they are all wrong then.

Teresa May has said in the Commons that the use of water canons could only ever be approved by the Home Office, and that approval has not been sought nor given.

there are reports of a peaceful protestor hit on the head with a police baton who suffered bleeding on the brain. the first hospital an ambulance took him to tried to turn him away as they had been told to only accept police.

a disabled man has told of being kicked from his wheelchair by officers and dragged across the street.

families with kids have been kept kettled for hours.

the ratio of injured protestors to injured police has been 43 to 9.

quite a few more than the countryside alliance mustered up. agreed policy should not just be determined by protest but large numbers of well attended protests across the country as well as letter to mps etc etc is surely a good litmus test of general sentiment.

At the election the only the lib dems were against tuition fees, theygot less than 25% of the vote. That says more than writing a few letters and smashing up central London.

I heard a protester threw a nuke and killed everyone.

All these fictional tales are pointless.

The last one is interesting, considering the self defence training police have sounds reasonable ;)

not fictional. you can find the story of the brain injured student on bbc website and the disabled student story was on channel 4 news.

a few of the usual suspects are trying to confuse Ninky's point...

there is no need to use the water cannon - the whole point of it is the monster issue the government are creating with the tuition fees issue.

unless they address the fundamental issue it won't go away, using the water cannon or not won't fix the problem...

yes quite probably. even if they wouldn't it doesn't mean we have to accept this behaviour - try telling iranians not to riot because the shah was as corrupt as the mullahs. .

So, let me get this straight.

Your idea is to let a protest turn into a riot.

A riot in which people simply go on their merry way, throwing bricks, fences, flares etc at police officers. Hell, even setting flares going in other protestors faces...that's pretty cool...makes the police look bad see, can blame the police for that one, anyway, I digress.

Go round smashing public and privately owned buildings. Breaking in to buildings. Ramming doors. Setting light to public property. Trashing police vehicles, trashing the royal assets, and frankly, even though the royals were stupid to be there at that time, shouting "off with their heads" and basically terrorsing the royals.

    That's your preference is it?

There has been not a single paper, person, or government condem the PROTESTS.

There have been all those people condeming the RIOTS causing criminal damage.

If these people get sprayed with a water cannon, all the better entertainment for the rest of us.

I enjoyed watching a couple of hours of the BBC live coverage on News 24. Adding water cannons into the mix will have me stocking up on crisps and beer before the show.

The De Menzes story is true also, do you hold labour to account for the police that day also?

I can't see why you blame the government for the actions of everyone.

If you are that thick the only way you can protest is trough attacking people and destroying property it is obvious you should not be at university.

    End of really.

If you cant protest peacefully expect the use of force.

The vast majority could not give a damn about whether students have to pay to go to uni or not. It has just been turned into a big issue because the protestors make a lot of noise.

I've just had a look through bbc photos, we've got grafitti, bricks going through windows, god knows what the cost of the damage is to the royal car.

ALL the clean up costs should come from future student funding, the more the protest and vandalise, the more gets cut, problem solved.
