Child would like unsuitable game for christmas HELP!

My 9 year old cousin plays COD with his friends over the x box and they're completely fine. He still knows that it is not real life and the difference between right and wrong. At the end of the day is it a game. It's got a rating but plenty of kids play these games unscathed. It's 'cool' amoungst their peers and probably a very popular game this christmas. There's no way he's actually going to get his hands on a gun and shoot anyone, anyway. I don't see it as a harmful thing. The boy's won't see it as a violent game, they just want to see who can shoot as many people on the other team as they can to win.
It's only a game - he's not actually going to war. I know i'm a minority, but plenty of young kids I know play it and it doesn't make any difference to their behavior.Toto, I

Is this a wind-up or are you really so stupid? your argument is so full of holes its hard to know where to start!
ok, so its 'cool'! with whom? the hard kids at school? those with brothers in gangs? and it isnt so hard for them to get hold of REAL guns is it?
these games innure kids to violence - they are very realistic and we all KNOW that kids dont always separate fantasy from reality.
why would you want YOUR child to play a game where people are killed? its a simple question - try answering it!
It may not affect the childs behaviour NOW - but YOU dont know how it would affect that childs thinking or behaviour in the future - if a child witnesses a horrific event then people immediately talk about counselling (sometimes even if they werent witnesses - such as the death of a schoolmate) so why would you want a child to INSTIGATE a simulation of that?
ITS JUST A GAME! to adults yes, its just a game - dont ascribe the same maturity to kids! and even some adults cannot cope - just ask mental health professionals!0 -

I'm 20. I remember playing blood bath on my dad's computer and watching reservoir dogs. My favourite film is Pulp Fiction. I grew up watching and playing these games and I'm fine. As with all the people I went to school with.
How many people do you know that are in gangs? I know none and I don't know anybody with a gun either. That is so far fetched.
It's up to her weather she buys her son the game. I have no reason to argue with someone with a different opinion. I just know from PERSONAL experience, that it's not as big an issue as people make out. Horror films have been around for years. Doesn't mean that people become pshyco killers just from watching them.
To those of you who sneakily watched a horror film when you were young at a sleep over say aye!
To those of you who are now serial killers say aye....
I didn't think so.Toto, I

It's rated 18, the child in question is 8. QED0

That's true. I'm only making the point that it doesn't always cause people to grow up to be bad people. Why make that assumption? Mountain out of a mole hill.Toto, I

My son has asked his waste of space dad for this for christmas, my son is 14 and his dad has apparently said yes thats ok. Over my dead body. After seeing and hearing the domestic violence that went on in our home for many years this sort of game is the last thing I would want him to have.If it appears and if is a very big word it will be going straight out the door.Paul Walker , in my dreams;)0
