I had a similar real life situation where a woman at Argos Direct was rude to me and put the phone down on me. I complained and was told she was on her final warning and would be sacked if I continued.

    What did I do?

Got her sacked of course! She was rude and clearly had a bad attitude - to be on a final warning meant it wasn't the first time, so she hadn't learned her lesson before.

    I felt no guilt.

The CS person was pretty shocked at me though! :D

I would still complain, but would probably not mention the fact they he/she had told me it was a final warning situation. Not my problem, I'm afraid, and could be a lie.
  • Sack the fool.
    You're my wife now!!
  • Its not ethical for a company to apply emotional blackmail in this way.
They shouldnt be telling me private details concerning their staff.
The staff member concerned should have had some re-training by now.
I would blame the company and wonder if they're telling me the truth anyway

I would have complained about the CS person as well. Shouldn't have told you that about an employee.
  • This could be a double edged sword, whereby no you do not want to see anyone sacked but you are out of pocket by £100, a lot of money to some people, so you must make a complaint!

First ever post, so please forgive any mistakes! I would feel awful about the person's job and certainly would not expect to be told that their position was under threat by any possible action I might take but, nevertheless, I WOULD expect some compensation for my loss. I think I would ask to speak to the person in charge of Staff Training and suggest that they improve the quality of their training programme, since it reflects poorly on them and perhaps their own position should be in jeopardy instead?

  • The very existence of civilisation depends on moral probity.
Any species that does not function effectively becomes extinct.
This does not imply lack of compassion, understanding of errors and assistance with their correction is a good survival trait. But allowing already proven incompetence to continue is a receipe for disaster, and in itself immoral.

This seems so obvious that I wonder why the question was framed in the first place, OR do you have someone up for a final warning?:

If it was the company that was telling me this I would complain. The company is clearly just ring trying to make me feel guilty about complaining so they can keep their 100 pounds regardless of what warning that person is on.

Also, I might advise the employee to ask the company what sort of compensation package the company will be offering him for breaching the DPA by telling me such personal information.

If I was speaking to the employee who lost me the 100 pounds I would probably be sympathetic and let him pay the money out of his own pocket.
