I always tip my postie (although I missed him last year so I will double his tip this year). He is always here before 10am, is willing to come find me in the back garden or does his best to leave parcels with neighbours, and he is always happy to have a quick chat. I usually tip him a fiver.

We collect all our ginger bottles for the bin men, and they take them into the Barrs place and get money for them. They say they make several hundred quid off of everyone and it pays for their night out. Prob get about 50.00 quid between me and mum. I wont tip my postie as he changes weekly and whoever it is cant seem to post our letters in the right letterbox............. I would tip the Tesco delivery driver, if tesco hadnt cancelled the xmas deliveries up here in scotland............... I will see him in the new year.

I won't tip my postie as it's never the same person and one of them keeps leaving expensive parcels on my doorstep (on the main road), argh...or the old classic, bung a card through without even knocking.

Who I SHOULD tip though is the lovely old chap who owns the little post office that my undelivered items go to afterwards....as sometimes I haven't even had a card so don't know about it, he very often drops in my packets to me as he walks past my house on his way home in the evening. LOVELY LOVELY guy and couldn't believe what I was seeing the first time he popped in!

Where we used to live in Essex we had a lovely postman who always helped me with my shopping and buggy whenever he saw me struggling up the stairs! He always brought my post up to me (i'm on the 3rd floor and our post box was on the ground floor!) and signed any 'signed for' deliveries for me if i was out. He was the best and sweetest postman you could ask for! My kids loved seeing him. Last Christmas we gave him a bottle of wine and a big box of chocs and for his birthday the kid's (my DD and neighbour's DS) made him a lovely card and we gave him some beer! Where we are now i am just getting to know our 2 main postmen! They seem lovely too but i still miss our old postie! Will be giving the 2 new postmen a box of chocs each, same with our new herme delivery guy! He is always here! (I've been buying loads of xmas presents online!) LOL! We have a good chat at the door everytime he comes and he always put our parcels in a secure place for us when we are out! Some days he can come twice in one day!! :o

I've never met or seen our bin mens as they usually come when i do the school runs. But, going by the last 2 weeks they won't be getting anything from my neighbours nor us as they haven't collected our rubbish! So each week DH has been going to the local dump to get rid of our waste. I can understand the 1st week because of the snow but thats been cleared now for ages.... The whole street looks a mess with all the bins out filled to the brim waiting just in case the day had changed...

We used to tip our postie a fiver - he was a brilliant bloke and we miss him since the round was taken off him to be split up because of the size of it.

We haven't had a regular postman since (2 years) and only get covered by people who can do overtime etc (as told to us by our old postie when he did indeed do overtime round here) One of the women who seems to do it stops for a chat with the woman who lives at the end of our block who is also a postperson and can be there for up to half an hour chatting.

Don't have a window cleaner or paper boy and we haven't had our bins emptied for a month now and apparently it may be January (!) before they get round to do it so no binmen to treat either.

  • ive never understood why we should tip people, same with christmas presents for nursery/teacher staff. its all new to me, i never ever got a teacher anything when i was growing up, and now that my son is in nursery (well 2) its all my friends can think of!
when growing up, our house used to tip the paper boy (IF the paper was regularly here after school, before dinner time anyways), and the postman(same one for years).
I dont have a paperboy (pay £2.50/£3 a week to see if i know any who went to jail for the weekend or died? no thanks, tahts what bebo/facebook is for!)
i did have the same post man for months but then he gets moved and we get a shoddy service for a few months and then the 1st one comes back and the cycle repeats itself.. he's currently away and ive had no mail for 3 weeks! got a call today to remind me of a job centre interviw/apppointment thingy, just as well, cause ive not recieved the letter!
might do the bin men some cookies/cakes if im in when tehy eventually get to my house.

Well I have decided to "tip" with home made cookies this year... After thinking and thinking then the amount of people I wanted to give a little "thank you" would soon be so long that I'd be spending more than I would on my husbands present! so instead I am going to make a mammoth batch of cookies :)
