well i always give the postlady and the dustmen chocs they are so good all year round and i just like to say a wee thank you0

Oh dear...I feel a bit mean now! I only tip our binmen and postie £2 or £3: I assumed quite a few people on the round would be tipping, so it'd all mount up to a nice amount. Not sure if I should bother now as I don't want to offend them with a low amount, but would miss £5 or £10
LIke I said in my previous post, don't feel guilty about how much you give - a thankyou should be enough!I :heartpuls M.S.E.Mortgage Free 18/01/10 13 years and 8 months early on a 20 year mortgage!

i tip the bin men, a case of beer but i never seem to have the same postman for two days in a row, and they are constantly leaving the six foot gate open at the front of the house - so is left open all day long while i am at work, and I have had thefts out of the garden as a result - even though there are three signs visible saying 'please shut the gate'.The opposite of what you know...is also true0

I would like to tip our Postman, but I am pretty sure we have 2! they are both lovely guys though, we had a woman for a while but I think the bag was too heavy for her as it used to take her untill gone 1pm to get her, our boys are here no later than 11am.
I am abit worried about how to give them something though as the guys bag is huge so I dont want to add to the weight! I think I will make a card and put £5 in it! then I can do one for both of them, How do you sign a card we arent on first name terms or anything he's just nice (and very scrummy looking!)Had my amazing little girlie 08/12/2007 - 11 days late! 9lbs 3oz

I'm going to give our post lady a couple of bags of reindeer food for her children and a footworks set. She is brilliant, always checks on my elderly neighbours, there are only five houses in my street and she knows that even if there is not a note on a parcel to leave at a different house, she will knock on them all to get someone in to take in parcels. (we are all fine with that)
The refuse men do not give a good service, the first year I tipped them as I had done in my previous house, I no longer tip them, having seen the way they leave the bin lids off, bins half way down the street, I have no inclination especially seeing they should be collecting my elderly neighbours bins from the back garden but dont...0 -
Had a conversation about tipping binmen, postmen etc earlier with colleagues - can't really understand it - most of them were saying they do it too.
Obviously they are at work during the day, so I asked how they did it, and they said they taped an envelope with a tenner etc to the inside of the bin lid/letter box.... is this actually that common? Can't imagine most people having this level of trust.0 -
I must admit that I've never really though of tipping the postman, not too sure why but we have many different ones now anyway. We always leave the bin men some beers though & I also buy my hair dresser a pressie (She's mobile & dead cheap
)
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0
