  • Its done! #119 is now officially mortgage free! It really is a great feeling to know that I completely own my modest little house and no one can take it away from me.

Being still relatively young(33), there may be further mortgages down the line but for the foreseeable future Im going to enjoy my new found freedom

For obvious reasons I wont be joining the 2012 challenge, but I will definitely pop in to see how you are all getting along. Since I joined the challenge a couple of years ago its really spurred me on and I dont think I would have reached my goal today without it. A big thanks to cake for keeping everything up to date!

Off now to have a celebratory cup of coffee!

Great achievement Field of Dreams - and at so young an age!! :T So jealous!!

Thanks for the kind messages - it feels great but it hasnt fully sunk in yet!

I think it will hit me when I get my next pay!

It is a slog but whenever I started to get any doubts I kept thinking about all of the money I was saving on interest by overpaying, and also the security that comes with owning your own home outright - thats a feeling money cant buy.

Keep at it, you'll be so glad that you did!

    Good Luck everyone

Fantastic news Field, I can only imagine how you must be feeling right now. Amazing I bet. And very young to be MF already. I bet you will still have to bug to save and hopefully put it towards bigger and better.

    Well done x

  • £240 payment made for December and form filled out! Bringing my total overpayment to my 1k target for 2011. I've updated my signature and I think it's time to figure out a target for 2012. Really proud that I've overpaid 3k in two years although wish I'd tried a bit harder to see what I could really achieve.

2011 Has been a more challenging year for overpaying but hoping things get easier in 2012. Instead of overpaying money has been spent on modernising the kitchen and there was a big trip overseas which obviously had a major effect on my overpaying.

I didn't think I was going to reach my target a few months ago but I've had quite a clear out this month and sold a bunch of things on Ebay and Amazon which has really helped.

So for 2012... There are no holidays planned and due to DW taking exams there definitely won't be any overseas holidays taken which was probably the biggest cost for me in 2011. I've got some debt on my credit card that needs tackling but this is interest free and I plan to pay it off early 2012 before the interest free period runs out.

I've also paid the house insurance for 12 months upfront avoiding the insurance companies interest rates so that should help and I've recently cancelled a magazine subscription so cut backs are being made in small ways. Changing energy suppliers to British Gas so I can pay for the energy I use each month instead of paying too much by direct debit and it sitting in EDF Energys account. The meter reading are monthly so I plan on keeping a closer eye on our energy use and hopefully save some money.

One last thing, well done on what everyone has achieved no matter how big or small. For those joining in 2012 I'm hoping it goes well for everyone!

I've just updated the chart with my first OP of the month which is £98.

There will be another £600 going off later in the month but that is reduced from the planned £800. Had to have a hard think and reduce according to where I think we'll be this month.

    See you all later,
    Spigs
