  • I have been lucky enough to get back pay from work which has allowed me to pay off the last of my debt today and still have a little left over. Now it's time to start saving for what I want instead of getting it and paying later.

    Lightbulb moment: June 2009

    Debt at highest: approx £15000

    Debt-Free Date: Today!!! 22/12/11

Pearls of wisdom: do a spending diary - it's amazing where your money dribbles away to! Also, admit when you can't afford something and keep coming on here for support - I couldn't have done it without this place.:)

Well Done, I agree this site keeps me going.

Enjoy your new found wealth!

  • My DH gave me the best Christmas present a girl can ask for an email from my DMP provider that a full and final settlement payment had been made and I'm now debt free! :j:j:j

I started out on my journey 6 years ago after having my LBM just before Christmas 2005 with £21k worth of debt a mixture of credit cards, loans and a catalogue! During this time, I've learnt you don't need fancy clothes, the latest gadget etc to be happy, what matters is being with family and friends.

My spending habbits won't change, though I've been told to treat myself with the £220 I use to pay to Pay Plan in the sales, but in all honesty there's nothing I really need or want, I'd be buying for the sake of buying! So instead it's going in the mortgage wannabe fund!

My pearl of wisdom is treat yourself to a little something every month, whether it be renting a dvd or going to the cinema, if you don't you could fall off of the band waggon or start to resent things/people.

One Pearl of Wisdon: Spreadsheets, spreadsheets, spreadsheets. Keep track of EVERYTHING. Also, use the envelope method and live off cash. Easier to keep track. Record everything. Only buy what you need or can afford. Check bank accounts. Basically, become OCD like me!!! :D

Thanks so much Martin and all the wonderful MSE forumites, you are gems
