ASDA = Scrooge

Try reading the post dear!
I said that by opening longer hours they would be employing more staff or doesn't your local shop do that for the holiday time?
And the point you were trying to make is........?
I think you need to look up the phrase "black humour" and try getting a grip!
Do you work for ASDA? If you don't, what are you complaining about? If you do, then you should be able to answer my questions. If they are employing extra staff, and people are happy to work over the holiday period for the pay being offered, what is the problem? If the permanent staff are required to work over the holiday period, then my earlier question still stands - how much extra are they being paid for doing it?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
And on the other side of it, I lost count of the amount of customers, that while having nearly 2 weeks off themselves for Christmas, really had a go at the staff for their company having the audacity to close for 2 days.0

Employing extra people in the current economic climate is fantastic, :j, as some temp jobs will lead to permanent ones.
The pertinent part is "IF" the permanent staff are paid extra. As others have posted not everyone will be paid extra. Unfortunately many employers don't. The fact is that many permanent staff in many industries will have to work extra hours, and some are given NO choice, they are the ones with whom i have sympathey.
It matters not a jot whether I work for Asda or not.
Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day (along with Good Friday and Easter Sunday) have been holidays in this country for a long time. As such retailers should respect them and not sacrifice their staff at the altar of blatant greed.
Temporary staff are a different category and their contracts will reflect the hours required.
I fail to understand why you are attacking me for having an opinion about stores opening longer hours to rake in more cash?
Oh and I'm aware that not everyone celebrates Christmas. Funily enough those shoppers are aware that it is a bank holiday and have always managed!LBM:FEB 2008

It's simple, they are not attacking you they are disagreeing with you. They don't agree with your opinion and are simply saying so.
While we have a right to express our opinions here, we have no right to expect only those who agree to reply.
So- can we clear it up, these stores are open St Stephens (Sun) Boxing Day (mon) and Holiday Tuesday?0 -

I totally agree - As I said before my dad works at a supermarket. He works in a management position - its incredibly badly paid (compared to the same responsibility if he was not in retail probably expect to get double his salary) and he's contracted to work 43 hours a week, but he's expected to work normally nearer 50 to cover sickness etc but gets paid sod all extra for the privelledge. He's expected to work weekends, awful hours and on top of that work every other holiday everyone else would expect to have off... I personally wouldn't put up with itMFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

I have absolutely no desire or expectation for people to be in agreement all the time. Teling someone not to bother to post on the other hand is an attack when thet person has expressed an opinion!
I am allowed to express the opinion that I have regardless whether I am employed by Asda. Given that the question (singular) was irrelevant to the opionin expressed, the posts are overly aggressive IMO.
I love having discussions with people who are able to discuss in a similar, civilised fashion.LBM:FEB 2008

All right I will answer this one as it might then move things on..
If the days in question are your rota working days then you get nothing extra..some staff have been offered a day off later in the new year but that depends on what you are doing ie warehouse or driver etc.
ASDA /wallmart have never paid well for bank hoildays as they work an almost 365 day year and 24/7 warehouse ( even when the store is closed Sunday night the warehouse is still working)
They only look at the rota and work on days in the month rather then hoildays so people are expected to work their shift.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Oh and if you were meant to be working 25.12.10 then rather then getting the day paid for they are adding the hours on to the week before if possible or spreading it out through the 2 weeks ( before and after) Some are expected to work 4 12 hour shifts the week before xmas back to back without any extra time off or pay.
But then again, it is a job so such is life. You do get a 20% discount day and £20 gift voucher for xmasThere is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

It seems Asda workers will not be having a very merry Christmas or New Year as some stores will only be shut 1 day - Christmas Day.
Previous years stores have been closed Boxing Day and New Years Day but staff morale has hit rock bottom this year, with stores staying open later on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve until 7pm this year as well to rub salt into the wound ! :eek: The company also does not recognise the Bank Holiday Mon/Tues designated by the state for Xmas/New Year falling at the weekend, Scrooge would be proud of the way the Wal-Mart owned company is treating its staff at their busiest and most stressful time of year !! :mad:
So much for the government banging on about making the Uk more family friendly ??
This is why they open as much as possible because it is busy and because people like you and I shop over that period.
Also if they don't recognise the bank holidays on the Monday and Tuesday it means the employees will get these days to use as when they wish (within the boundries laid out by the company)The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
