Close all shops on Sundays and every Bank Holiday unless they are truly needed like chemists or true family run shops.
But what about the people whose sabbath is on the saturday? And those who are not christian in this country? do they not get a say in when they can shop also?
Im guessing theres an awful lot of non christians in this country as the churchs are empty until songs of praise make an appearanceone of the famous 5

Perhaps it should be like when I went to Turkey during Ramadan.
we had to eat out of sight when eating during the day and they wouldn't serve me a beer during the day.
Their country, their rules. Which I respect.
Our country, our rules?0 -

Sorry but ' Our countries rules' state that the shops are allowed to open on Sundays and bank holidays and every other day that they are open.
that are these countries rules are they not?

Yes I understand some people have to work these days such as health service workers, pubs etc. but this is nothing new - you know this when you take the job. When an employer decides to change the contract in effect and bully people into working on these days then staff will get angry. Was 4 days shut out of 365 really that bad for food retailers ?
The Bank holiday Monday/Tuesday will be paid as normal time as ASDA are classing as normal working days.0 -

Can I ask who's told you this as our manager has told us both days are classed as bank holidays.
But then again someone started the same rumour last year and got everyone up in arms, when it wasn't true!0 -
Bearing in mind that virtually everyone overstocks with food etc., in the run up to Christmas, and most homes resemble a seige status with grub everywhere, who are these people that feel the need to start food shopping again on Boxing Day?:eek::eek:
And, usually, in supermarkets, there are very few people shopping after early afternoon Xmas Eve - most people are worried that the shelves will have run out of what they want, and are generally better organsised than that anyway.
Surely, ALL food shops, at least, should be shut Xmas Day and Boxing Day?
Not for any religious reason, simply so that families can try and have a bit of 'together' time.
Even those working in the run up to Xmas have plenty of time for enough food shopping to last a few days.
Years back, food shops were closed for days at Xmas, deliveries were slow coming through to shops afterwards, and we just stocked up well with bread, milk, essentials etc.,
Of course, those were the days when the turkey bought by mum lasted about 10 days, until the mere thought of any more turkey caused throughts of suicide/despair...........:eek:;)

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

Families having together time would be ace. But not all families can as some also have to work in other jobs on Boxing day.
And if your extending it to food shops then why not all retailers? no one seems to give a damn about them in this thread yet they have always opened on boxing day for the sales..
Times have moved on im afraid.. people better get used to it.one of the famous 5

When a significant a public holiday is looming like Christmas then shops should be closing early, there's no need for them to be open in the evening on Christmas Eve, nor should they need to be open on Boxing Day. I don't think I have ever stepped inside a supermarket on Boxing Day!
I do however like shops staying open later during the week though. As so many people work, if they only stayed open when eveybody is working, Saturday shopping would even more horrendous than it is now.0 -
It's the consumers that make this happen. Doesn't Next open at 6am on boxing day.Come on you Irons0
