I work for a cinema company and the only day we close is Christmas itself. We have to work either xmas eve and boxing day or new years eve/day. Time and a half only on one of those days. But at least I had a job, is what I keep telling myself.

If you think the supply of gas and electric (which you cannot store easily) is the same as the supply of groceries (which you can store easily) there is no point in trying to explaining to you......

    Merry Christmas anyway...............

I'm only being a pedant really, at the end of the day they are still having to work christmas day for a need, if the need was not driven by the consumer then they would not be required.

Merry Christmas to you as well:beer:

I agree shops shouldn't open boxing day, but Christmas eve is a normal working day.

Most people work on Christmas Eve but most people leave work early on full pay and are winding down. 7pm is part of the evening, not part of the day. Where do you draw the line, Midnight?

I picked up one of those little red cards with the opening times in Asda whilst shopping in there on Xmas eve.

I was quite shocked to find they were only closed for one day over the whole of Xmas.

Good news if you're a customer but not good news if you work there. I am just relieved I work for a company that shuts down for the whole of Xmas and returns on 4th Jan, (I work p/t so my first day back is 6th Jan).

I'm coming to your store, we haven't been given lieu days since the switch to the pay system years ago :(

    Emay,

warehouse rather then store but I thought it was the same pay deals. We have loads of lieu days a year but then we do work a 12hr night shift here so that might make a difference ? ?
