Dia does mean diamond, sometimes it also gives the carat weight of the diamond, eg dia .5 would be half a carat. if the seller has described the diamond as very bright and sparkly, and its not, thats what you can do the significantly not as described under. I got my wedding ring, engagement ring, and eternity ring all second hand off shops from ebay, there's nothing wrong in that, but you have to know what you're buying. Goog luck.

That's true actually, didn't think of that!

And thank you for also clarifying that DIA means diamond :)

I googled before and 950 meant Platinum on various sites I looked at.

    DIA stood for Diamond too.

And why say are they are blind? If I'd seen a close up of the ring, I wouldn't have thought straight away "oh it's an illusion ring", I would have just thought it was a small diamond in a big mount, which it is.

You were originally referring to the seller not realising it was an illusion set ring. I know what every ring I have looks like.

The DSR laws are in fact not only universally applicable to the whole of the United Kingdom, but to the rest of the EU as well

I think you should be OK but it might be worth seeing if the NI courts service could give you further advice. I am thinking of a law degree for next year, but sadly thus far I don't have a legal background so I wouldn't want to say definitely yea or nay.

These would be the DSR laws that don't apply to auctions and private sales?

I know what every ring I have looks like, but if I had one like the sellers, I wouldn't neccessarily know it was called an 'illusion' ring, that's my point!

Like someone might have a gate bracelet, but not know it's called a 'gate' bracelet, so they just call it a bracelet!

I took the ring to a jewellers who told me the ring is called an illusion ring. ie. it is a very small diamond set in lots of metal to make the diamond look a lot bigger. thats why the picture was so misleading.

I contacted the seller whose response was "I do have a no returns policy which is stated, like most other ebayers. I am sorry but ebay is an auction site not a shop"

    What do I do now?

Seller is behaving badly! Open 'not as described' claim and send it back with tracking when eBay tell you to, get your money back. I don't like his attitude at all and you deserve a nicer ring than this joker sent you x

ohh dear dear dear me **holds head in her hands**

did alarm bells not stop ringing when they refused paypal??
did alarm bells not ring it was a 99p start - WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would risk a diamond ring selling for 99p?????

WHY oh WHY pay £200 for a diamond ring on ebay?? this is my engagement ring....... it certainly doesn't look cheap and if anyone dared to say that to me they'd get hit with it.. 8166749?$detail$only £149.

have you SEEN the price of platinum solitare rings - at well over £500 i would have had alarms rigning if i got one for £200.

I really hope you get your money back but I think the seller may be laughing all the way to the bank.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

Just to answer a few more questions, the seller knew the ring was an illusion set ring, how do I know this, cause the word ILLUSION is handwritten in pen in large capital letters across the box.

Just so everyone understands a solitaire ring, is a diamond set on its own in a claw setting. this ring is a large flat piece of metal within which the diamond is not clearly visible, we had to hold the ring up to the light to try and find the diamond.

When you look at the picture of the ring the seller privided it looks like a solitaire ring, and it is descirbed as a solitaire. this is not what it is. imagine the entire top of the ring is flat metal, with a small chippping embeded into it, if you are under any illusion (excuse the pun) as to what a solitaire ring is please google it, and I can assure a flat lump of metal is not what will come up in the search.

That pic certainly makes it look nice & glittery and as if it's quite a nice sized diamond.
Have you opened an ebay dispute?

First time I have seen this auction as I couldn't find it before. I see that in the title it is advertised as platinum. Definately worth contacting the assay office - if 950 DIA is the mark for Palladium as mentioned it could be earlier then that is definately 'not as described'.
