    Thanks

Taking it to jewellers tomorrow, I contacted the seller and I am waiting a reply.

The seller had nearly 300 positive feedbacks thats why I purchased it from them.

Thansk everyone for advice and will follow up with an update.

Soolin thanks for the advice I actually wanted a sapphire ring at £100 but OH said everyone would think it looked cheap but I actually prefer them to diamonds!

Don;t bother with paying a jeweller to give an opinion. Give the seller 48 hours to respond and then open an SNAD claim.

Then go check out that H Samuel site, I'm not one for rings but £200 will buy you a diamond and gold ring and have change left over.

EDIT: I only found the h Samuel site as it was the first one to come up on Google, obviously shop around as I'm sure if you cna buy a diamond ring for £140 from them then there will be lots of other places that will be even cheaper.

I'm quite suprised that you would suggest a website for a ring. They really have to be seen on the finger, especially as it will (hopefully) be worn constantly.

I agree, I was merely showing a High Street shop that had a web presence so the OP could see what was the possibility of buying what she wanted on her budget.

I suspect that High Street prices will be very competitive.

However I did have to assume that there was some reason why the OP bought online and didn't just trundle down to the local shopping centre.

Regarding the hallmark, according to the Birmingham assay office website the 950 is either for Platinum or Palladium, it depends on the shape of the surround. The DIA is more likely to be a makers mark rather than a random note of there being a diamond set in the ring as the type of stone is not known at the time the hallmark is applied.

Make sure you send it back Special Delivery
  • A bit of a tricky one. Would you say that the ring is definitely NOT the one in the picture (remembering that camera angles and so on can be very misleading)? I've had a look at the listing and it's not a particularly good photo.

The description itself doesn't really make any promises. No mention of the size of the diamond and so on. So if you'd just hoped it would be a big diamond because of the picture then you might just be unlucky.

However, if you're sure it's not the ring in the picture, then yes - go ahead and file a not as described claim.

Madtrekker you miss quoted me what I said was the ring doesnt look anything like the picture i.e the picture was misleading, and I was enquiring would this be a basis to raise an SNAD
  • I took the ring to a jewellers who told me the ring is called an illusion ring. ie. it is a very small diamond set in lots of metal to make the diamond look a lot bigger. thats why the picture was so misleading.

I contacted the seller whose response was "I do have a no returns policy which is stated, like most other ebayers. I am sorry but ebay is an auction site not a shop"

    What do I do now?

Go into paypal & open a significantly not described claim.

Paypal usually err on the side of the buyer & you will be asked to return the ring by a tracked method, for something of this value you will need to use special delivery. Once you have proof it has been signed for give Paypal a call & the money is usually refunded immediately.

...I paid nearly £200 for a ring advertised as platinum and diamond and the picture should a big diamond on the ring...

As mentioned this is an illusion set ring. A tiny chipping made to look like a large stone. Not sure that this has been misdescribed - more a case of 'failing to mention', is that the same? Also did the OP really expect a 'big diamond' for £200?
