Urgent help needed with ebay

Hi guys need some help, my fiance bought me an engagement ring on ebay. We cant afford a ring bu everyone keeps asking me to see my e ring so we bought a cheap one as we are sick of explaining to people we didnt have one.

Anyway I paid nearly £200 for a ring advertised as platinum and diamond and the picture should a big diamond on the ring, but when we received the ring the bit that looked like a diamond is actually metal and you cant even see the diamond! I dont even think it is I diamond.

The seller didnt have a return policy, what are my rights and would should my next step be.

Do I say that the picture was misleading?

Please help as £200 is a lot of money for a ring that I cant even call an engagement ring as there is no diamond visible on it.

A couple of questions was the size (carat ) of the diamond stated and is it a business seller?

no details of the ring size or clarity and no the seller wast a business seller.

I presume this means I have no chance of getting my money back

There is always a good chance of getting money as you have a better than evens chance of winning a SNAD claim. OK, so what exactly did you buy, forget the picture what did the description say?

A well cut ring can have a tiny diamond but if well polished and photgraphed at a certain angle look as though it is all diamnond instead of mount. However this will hinge on the description as if you have something that materaially differs from that described you cna just do a SNAD claim.

Every chance. The picture was misleading, do a not as described. Then, if you must have an engagement ring, there is no hard and fast rule it has to be a diamond. How about your birthstone?
Or for £200 you could have a good quality cubic zircona.

    Wording of description

Very pretty platinum ring with diamond solitaire
I am selling because it has just been lying in the jewellery box, which seems a shame
    It is a size J or K
    Very bright and sparkly
It is fully hallmarked inside, most of it I cannot see but I can see 950 and DIA (diamond)
It feels a good solid weight for it's size, it flicks on 3g on my big baking scales then 2g so I think it weighs at the top end of the two's. I don't know why everyone puts the weight but thats the best I can do
It is in excellent condition, it's not that old.
Will be sent recorded - insurance optional

The ring is not bright nor is it sparkly, we dont even think it is real.

Oh dear, I assume this is a newbie seller then, recorded on a diamond ring. I would now be having serious doubts about this ring, and personally I would ask the seller outright for a refund as you are disappointed with it and feel it is not as described. I think you are basically being told that they have a cheapish ring and will not commit to saying anything precise about it so have gone for 'sparkly'.

If seller does not co operate open a full SNAD claim in paypal on the basis that item is SNAD. If you win the paypal dispute you will need to return the ring fully tracked and that must be by Special delivery to cover yourself.

Then do as Macfly says and get yoruself down ato a jewller and find something else, £200 is a more than adequate budget. My ring (and I've been married now for ever ) was a garnet as I just loved them.

    Thanks

Taking it to jewellers tomorrow, I contacted the seller and I am waiting a reply.

The seller had nearly 300 positive feedbacks thats why I purchased it from them.

Thansk everyone for advice and will follow up with an update.

Soolin thanks for the advice I actually wanted a sapphire ring at £100 but OH said everyone would think it looked cheap but I actually prefer them to diamonds!
