The Great Jessops Price Match Challenge!

My understanding is that - unfortunately - they can do this. It is technically an "Invitation to treat", not a legal offer. You make the offer when you say you want to buy something (with the payment being the consideration), they accept, and that is a contract. So, if they havent accepted your offer, you cant do anything0

The sale that Jessops did is IMHO an act of desperation. Whilst they've tried to diversify over the years to stock many different types of electronic goods, they can easily be undercut by both specialists and larger players.
Times were hard for Jessops and to get investment capital they did what a lot of companies did and sold their land to rent it back. Problem was when landlords increased the cost of rent. Very shortsighted.
I don't expect Jessops to be around for much longer unless it pulls something special out of the hat.

I bought a 400D body and a 2GB Sandisk Extreme III CF card, 10 days ago from Jessops in Bluewater.
They honoured their price match promise for me, with 110% discounts. The prices I got were:
400D body
Jessops price: £490
Internet price: £441 (cameras2u.com)
Jessops price match: £436
Sandisk 2GB Extreme III CF
Jessops price: £130
Internet price: £45 (amazon.co.uk)
Jessops price: £37
The shops assistants themselves were impressed with the memory card price, but still accepted it!0 -
For the record, it was the Bluewater store who price matched my lens, and the Maidstone store (Chequers Centre) who price matched my camera and memory card...0

Their pricematch is definately still going. I got a JVC Everio 20Gb HDD camcorder yesterday from their Rugby store for £270! This was £100 off their in-store and online price, pricematch was with https://www.empiredirect.co.uk. Better deal than anywhere i'd guess, even pixmania (who I was going to buy from till I read all their bad press).0

Jessops have this for £329.99 http://www.jessops.com/Store/s35344/0/Camcorders/Canon/MV960-Mini-DV-Camcorder-/details.aspx?&IsSearch=y&pageindex=1&comp=y. I have this particular model and it is very good for the price, the picture quality is good and it is very easy to use. This retailer http://www.shop-com.co.uk/op/~MV960_MiniDV_Camcorder_camcorder_from_CANON-prod-31143713-40540568?sourceid=309 has it for £237.99.
The price at Jessops £329.99
The price at the competitor £237.99
Details of how much you can save £92 + £9.20 = £101.20 bringing price to £228.79
Just in case shop-com aren't part of Jessops price match companies, tecno http://www.tecno.co.uk/Store/s37703/0/Camcorders/Canon/MV960-Mini-DV-Camcorder-/details.aspx?&IsSearch=y&pageindex=1&comp=y have this for £244.99 making the deal
The price at Jessops £329.99
The price at the competitor £244.99
Details of how much you can save £85 + £8.50 = £93.50 bringing price to £236.49
All prices include vat and delivery in the UK.0 -
Hi
I have done a bit of further research and their 110% price match offer should be classed as "an offer to the world at large" as it is prominetly displayed in thier shops by the way of a leaflet making a statement. and by me accepting thier offer it should make it a legal contract.
The invitation to treat would be if they had an item on display with a price on it, it would then be classed as an offer to treat, and they then do not have to accept my offer to purchase.
Will advise the outcome.qprfact wrote:My understanding is that - unfortunately - they can do this. It is technically an "Invitation to treat", not a legal offer. hi,
just got the 400d silver with lens for £404.99. Priced the 400d in black for £374.99 from digitalrev, went to jessops with the info and a 0845 number. The manager didnt bat an eyelid and said that she had to ring them, I said no probs. 30 secs later she came back and said that the number was wrong. OOPs went I, I will go home and get the number. Then she said that they didnt have the black one in only the silver, which I said was £30 dearer than the black one. In the end no probs. I know that they should of beat it by 10%, but I have now found out that digitalrev charge vat and delivery as well. So i got a real result. And I got the half price lens as well.
Now I wonder would they priced match their own receipt?
Sorry to waffle but I am really excited.0 -
I was hoping to use their price match tomorrow :-o
Does the fact that a member of staff told me they'd do it, about a week ago, make any difference do you think?
Though fwhorn seems to have managed it, so I may just try anyway...
Yikes, I was really hoping to do that. It was only going to the jessops site just now, and not being able to find anything about their price match that got me suspicious, and I searched here.0 -
Jessops Exeter pricematched a camera for me on Sunday morning and a case for it. I didn't push for the 110% as there were no signs in the store and the case was about 75% off. I figured that was good enough for me!
I phoned before I left to check it was ok. The Store Manager did say they don't pricematch amazon there now because they can't guarantee it's UK stock (hmm). When I asked him which they do accept he mentioned cameras2u and warehouseexpress if I remember correctly. Cameras2u were cheaper than amazon anyway so I was chuffedTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0
