Possibly, but I bought it from elsewhere - and it's not worth the bother!

    Fair enough.

Bit off topic, but any thoughts on a good lense for the 400? Going to be doing a fair bit of wildlife photography so needs to be fairly long range....

    Another price match to report:

    Canon EF 75-300mm f4/5.6 USM MK3 lense.

    Jessops price: £168.99
    Warehouse Express price: £129
    Price match: £125.01
  • Today for me....

    Canon Powershot 530 Jessops - £148.??

    Amazon Price - £99.99

    Final price - £95.??

All done with no fuss or bother. Just took the amazon screen print and the price was matched and beaten on the spot.
  • I realised that Jessops were a little bit more expensive, but after an insurance claim I realised how much so. A Sony H5 is £349 in Jessops but available for £260 from Amazon and others, unfortunately with the vouchers sent for getting a replacement it says in large letters on the back does not include price match - it would have meant Jessops dropping the price by £97.90. But I am going to see about price matching a new memory card, using the advice and links above.
  • I bought a Panasonic NV-GS180 Mini DV Camcorder at Jessops Milton Keynes on 13th November. Mention of the cameras2u and shopping4cameras raised a wry smile from the assistant manager...

They matched the price from Digital Empire which was the cheapest I could find for a UK based site (they weren't matching Pixmania at the time).

    Jessops price £329
    Sold to me for £296.
    :onervous but determined :o

I bought the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM & EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM lenses to go with my new 400D. After all, the money should go on the lens rather than the camera. Both lenses get glowing reviews.

I have just got my 17-55 so have only had a chance to test the 70-300 so far. Just one late afternoon in the local park produced excellent images in fading light, even handheld at 300mm (thanks to IS). The lens is relatively small and light due to the DO (diffractive optics) and the reviews are very good. Being compact and black means you can walk around without scaring people away or straining your neck muscles.

For the 17-55 I paid 635 (abc-digitial-cameras.co.uk price matched by Jessops) and for 70-300mm I paid 778 (ditto). Seems like a lot of money until you compare with L-series lenses. This one is almost up there with the L's on quality and way ahead on portability and price.

Back on the subject : Jessops in Hammersmith told me they are no longer price matching though they honoured the price match on the lens I had already ordered.

Can anyone confirm if this is the case for all Jessops stores ?

Well I thought it was £79.99, but given that they currently want £73.99 for the 1GB version you may well be correct - too late now though!

Hmmmm, Jessops told me they were asking £130 for the CF Sandisk extreme 3 2GB and weren't prepared to match the Amazon reseller who wanted £40. So I bought the Amazon one ! It seems that different stores have different takes on this. Some other items I bought they price matched but refused to give the extra 10% as they claimed it was below their trade price.

Always shopped at Jessops for camera/camcorder stuff, despite their high prices.

The high prices were fine as Jessops do a Price Match where you gegt 110% of the difference back if you find the item cheaper - even online (I once got about £200 off a camcorder doing this).

Went in today to buy a camera as a present for Christmas, I'd naturally found it cheaper (nearly £100) online and in stock.

Picked up a brochure, read the terms and conditions and as everything was fine, the website was OK and checked out, I went to the counter.

Bloke behind counter says "We don't do price match anymore!"!!!

I show him the booklet, with the price match in it, which is current - but he won't do it.

That's what being loyal to a store does for you. I'd have preferred to buy at Jessops, but I'll now have to buy online. Shame.

Looks like I'm never shopping there again.

Addition: Just phoned Jessops and the enquiries guy confirmed that the Price Match deal has now been pulled "As we were losing too much money on goods".
