asda diesel freezing? compensation??

That product suggests that raising the cetane level of the diesel stops it freezing .So does anyone know which readily available fuel has the highest levels of cetane ? Maybe which a booster ,better fuel and a bit of carpet in the engine over night I can stop this happening.Its just cost me £140 to hire a car for a few days.:eek:We have recently got hold of some additive from Wruth, it raises the cetane level and prevents waxing, we have put it in a few and so far seems to work.

I had a motorbike that didn't like the wet, now I have a car that don't like the cold.
My diesel Fiesta (52 plate) has been playing up these last few days, running on Sainsburys diesel at the moment.
I have put some cardboard in front of the rad.0 -

DPFs are not a legal requirement in the UK yet, which is why Mercedes do not fit them to cars sold here. To quote Mercedes, "We do not fit DPF systems on UK cars as it is not a legal requirement, and saves us about £400 per car"
As for supermarket v branded fuels, I offer the following info.
Since 2001, I have driven diesel engined vehicles. As part of the ownership, I kept accurate records of the mpg returned from different brands. The following are my findings -
Citreon Xantia 1996 TD - ave. 35mpg on sainsburys and 37.5mpg on Shell (over 4 years)
Renault Espace 1197 TD - Ave. 33.5mpg on Sainsburys and 35.5 on Shell (over2 years)
Vauxhall Astra 1.7TD (GM lo-blow engine) Ave 47.5mpg on Sainsburys and 56 on Shell (over 3.5 years)
One thing I did notice, all my cars failed the emmissions part of the MOT if they had been run for more than 2 tanks of supermarket fuel prior to the test (even after a good thrashing along the A12), but then all passed when refilled with branded fuel.
The worst one was the Astra, it failed with such high readings that the exhaust gas analyzer actually shut-off as it reached its safe working limits.
I have now switched to a petrol Focus which is the worst-handling car I have ever driven in the snow.
It does seem that certain engines really do produce better mpg with branded fuel, over all though, it makes very little difference. I will admit that I use Shell or Texaco as in my area at least, they are 0.4p p/ltr cheaper than Sainsburys/Tescos/ASDA.Never Knowingly Understood.

I thought Merc fitted the DPF to UK models, but as I can't afford a new Merc I haven't really looked into it.
I think BMW's have DPF's but again have no direct experience.
Though I can confirm that the new 2.2 Merc Sprinter Ambulances are alledged to have a DPF fitted, though after the trouble caused by the DPF's fitted to the 300 odd Zafiras in the fleet I would have thought they would have steered well clear.
To be honest on the subject of diesel freezing at -15, I think any diesel will start to have trouble there, though the fact that it was a Ford that had the issues in the last few posts may well indicate that the injection system used has parameters that are on the side of caution, as I have heard many horror stories relating to the fragility of the injection system fitted to some older TDCi Fords maybe they have altered a lot of the parameters to prevent any more failures.
Going back to supermarket fuel quality, I couldn't find a Bank with money in it last week and was running on fumes, so had to use the pay at the pump at Tescos in Rainham, result was fuel consumption down to 47mpg, and the colder weather has resulted in 44 mpg.
And the car is down on power aswell, this thread will go on and on and is probably entirely subjective, though it has restarted a little bit due to me posting the information that I came across about the sulphur content of Red Diesel, which is actually higher than pump fuel, or it shall be till Jan 2011 when the EU start to fiddle with it, I wonder if all those canal boats will run aswell with low sulphur fuel, I don't think they will.0 -
I actually had trouble starting my motor yesterday morning at 4:30am
It was -11c. Diesel was definately starting to wax as i could hear the fuel pump and she didn't want to start.
Got her going eventually but she didn't like it
Was using Shell diesel btw as it's at the end of my roadIf Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0
