Brrrrr there's been a hard frost overnight, those roads are not going to be nice today! No more snow though, in fact we've had none since !0.30 yesterday morning - yes I was clock watching!
The council said last night that we were to prepare for the schools being open today but have emergency childcare in place, just in case, but their website is down again this morning.
Had a lovely afternoon out with my sister and the boys, they got some new clothes, and a gift for gran, and spent some of their own money on some things they were after. Dsis bought me a lovely red and white spotty brolly out of primark for my birthday for £4, which she was moaning about, but I'd rather she bought me something I needed than something more expensive just for the sake of it.I am happy with my gift, and she has more money for her kids' Christmas!
Our other sister unfortunately judges your affection by how much you spend on her, which can make for interesting conversations
Plan for today is to get my foreign pressies posted, and to finish sorting out downstairs so my tree can go up. I usually wait until the 13th but DS2 is desperate now that the snow has arrivedI need to bake more bread, and some sort of biscuits/cake, and I am swithering between fajitas or sausage hotpot for dinner.
Have good days all, JackieO I hope your brother is doing good today, hugs spoons and Hi5's all round.

Morning all, well the snow has stopped at last but the tempreture is minus 5 so its not going away and nothing is moving.I can't see DD and I going to France tomorrow.I expect it will be rearranged for a later date .
no way I can get out today as the roads are still blocked.Still getting lots of Christmassy jobs done cards and wrapping ect.Roll on next week when we get a thaw hopefully
Today I am going to make a big pan of liver and bacon casserole in my SC.I am digging out stuff from my freezer to use up.I still have some frozen veg and a few carrots..Right off to have some porridge for breakfast
keep warm everyone

Cold here too but no more snow overnight-still plenty on the ground though.
The paper boy has delivered the paper again but the milkman hasn't been and the bin is still at the bottom of the drive waiting to be emptied. I know it is difficult for the binmen but a lorry about twice the size of the bin lorry managed to get up the road on Wednesday.
I made some chicken and leek soup yesterday with some cheap leeks from Aldi. I froze enough for our lunch on Sunday and will have the rest for lunch today. For dinner we will have steak and mushroom pudding cooked in the slow cooker.
DH wants to go walking tomorrow. I'd like to go but am worried about icy car parks and roads.0 -
I spoke to our council yesterday about the bin collections, and apparently part of the problem is that the mechanism on the lorries has been freezing, and they then need to go back to the depot to get it freed before they can do any work  - I would imagine if that's true that they'll be exeriencing the same up and down the country. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

we had that problem at the start of the year when it snowed. it meant everyones bins were overflowing and they didnt any extra collections to make up for what they missed "I have learnt that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one""You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”Maya Angelou0 -
Good Morning All
JackieG - the tail-lifts on our lorries are affected by the cold so I would imagine its true. Gawd only knows when our refuse collectors are going to turn up.
Finally stopped snowing here and none forcast for today :j once again doesn't matter too much to me, have loads of food in and am in the office all day. Kids are off school again the school website has loads of homework on it, think will be arguments with DS about that, DD's is mainly revision.
I really want to have an OS day like PenPen but am so behind with my office workhave been putting things off the last couple of days so it's no-ones fault but my own. Still havn't got back in a proper routine since I was ill. So.....todays the day, no procrastinating (sp). Will try and get loads of the boring stuff out of the way so can have a nice weekend. Have a few hours to do on my 2nd job too, so am earning money today :T
But first just going to have a look at the grabbit board, see if there are anymore barginous Xmas pressies to be had.
Have a great day.x0 -
Morning all. Bitterly cold once again, I got upstairs, popped on the heater and leaped under the duvet(which is freezing cold anyway!).
Uni is open today and I have a meeting with a group, but I might try to reschedule this or propose doing it by skype as it looks treacherous outside, so icy. Not going out is driving me slightly stir crazy, but also because i'm not walking and i'm sitting in my room I'm really feeling how cold it is in here, it seems impossible to get it over 11C. Fortunately a full kettle does just enough water fro the life sustaining holy trio of cup of tea, bowl of porridge and hot water bottle :j
A friend of mine isn't even flinching at the snow, she just did a year abroad in sweden in one of their harshest winters- four months in foot high snow and ice
Going to do some uni work and find something on catchup to watch. Yesterday I tried watching the only way is essex and it was such rubbish :rotfl:couldn't believe I was doing it to myself and couldn't believe they were all around my age(20) as they looked 30+. Clearly sun beds and fake tan are not forgiving to the skin.
I'd like to make bread but know I don't really need it until sunday so would be a bit of a waste. But a nice hot crusty roll with a cuppa in this weather mmmmmLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Morning my lovelies
Something to warm your cockles (not that Tom Jones is my cup of tea )

I am off out on the razzle tonight (and tomorrow night too) - tap class are having Xmas party. Will be packing extra clothes as to wear coming back and in case of emergency as it's sooooooo cold today.
Poor H will have to fend for himself again for tea
No real plans for today, total OS fraud really
Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good day OS or not. Keep warm and stay safe on the ice.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Hi
I haven't posted for some time but would like to join back in and improve my OS ways!
So, plans for today are to make veg soup and get the BM out and working.
We had our first day of snow yesterday and luckily no more overnight, in fact the roads look quite slushy. It's a bit tricky keeping warm though as our central heating has broken so we're relying on one gas fire and fan heaters (not cheap to run:().
No work today so can hopefully do some meal plans as well.
Have a good day everyone
