Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 3rd December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Don't believe no one else is up before me - or are you all scraping ice off your cars?

Morning everyone - was up before the crack of dawn with my eldest joining me in bed. Brrrrrr he had VERY cold feet - not the awakening I'd planned on this morning I can tell you.

Last night managed to pull some meatballs and pasta sauce out of my hat for us all to eat. Still have more than a welly height of snow lying. Got a text yesterday saying that Police are stopping people with snow on the roof of their car, fining them £60 and giving them 3 penalty points . Don't know how true this is, but as no one wants to pay out unnecessarily I thought I'd pass it on.

Managed to sit OH down and talk finances after he "retires" from his job in April. He's only 42, but been in the army over 20 years. Managed to show him that we will need more than his pension will provide - and think I've convinced him of the need to look for something else quickly. Children will be in school this morning so I might be able to make it back into the office - 1st time in a week.

Have a feeling that this weather has been the shape of things to come this winter, so will ensure that I take work home with me - enough to keep me out of mischief anyway.

Can't wait until my builder neighbour can install the multifuel stove - might be able to save money by turning the central heating MUCH lower down then. Can't bear to think of the money I'm spending with it on (even though its only on timed and we're wearing winter clothes and wrapping warmly inside).

Hugs to all xx Stay safe in the snow and ice
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

sticky hunting ........... no need - I've been beaten to it by seconds :rotfl: Good morning emsf :)

We've been snowed in the last couple of days and it's been brilliant :T i spent all day yesterday being Old Style - cooked 3 hot meals, made various snacks, baked with DS, cleaned, updated admin, and started knitting a teacosy :j

More of the same today, though DS has just come in saying that his school is open for years 10 and 11. He's cool about that as he has 3 lessons of art today to work on his GCSE project :)

    Stay warm :A

    Morning all

Was due to be -7 here last night so the heating stayed on most of the night as DH was coming in at 3am and had been stading out since 10 and then he went back out on another little job at 4:15 and was back for 6:15 and got into bed where I warmed him up - he was like a block of ice!

Just me and DD today to pop out and do a few ms jobs as well as pick up some things I've ordered. Think I'll put some mince in the slow cooker to construct a lasagne for dinner.

be back later - stay warm and safe x

    Morning all,

minus 8 here this morning , so all the snow from yesterday has frozen, its like an ice rink out there, not looking forward to getting to work at all, was bad enough coming home last night, slipped and skidded all through the village.

Thank goodness dd's school is shut, she had exams yesterday and today, so they will have to reschedule them, but I think its safer they stay at home.

My sainsbugs delivery was cancelled, so we are very low on some things, if I manage to get to work, I will stop at Mr T on the way home and get stuff for the weekend, delivery is now coming monday, so i just need stuff to get us through. My sisters OH stopped at the co-op last night for a loaf and some veg, they were completly out of bread and milk, the shop man said that people were panic buying 3 or 4 loaves and gallons of milk, I hope there is some left today.

Dinner tonight is goint to be a take away curry, it was OH's birthday yesterday, so his choice for takeaway :T. Will ask dd to hoover through today, and have a general tidy round.

Sistercas, I hope you feel better soon xx

Jackie O thinking of you all xx

    Have good day all xx

No more snow overnight but we've got enough already and the roads look horrendous!!!!! Waiting for DH to come in from work, DS's off school, DS1 has PD day anyway.
Plan for today; post ebay parcels and list the toys DS's have sorted out that they have grown out of, they have asked I make some more biscuits like yesterday and satying warm
Chilli and tacos for tea from the cupboard- bought the chilli when it was 25p a tin in Tesco and still got loads left

    Stay safe everyone

More snow in Newcastle and flipping freezing. Car now been stuck for a week.

Up and ready for (fingers crossed) DW delivery from John Lewis. Cleared out 7 kitchen units and 6 drawers and now have space, in fact now have empty space! Electrician needs to come to install a new double point behind cooker (only a single there) and then a plumber to plumb, don't know who's going to cut through the cupboard carcass first -such excitement is difficult to bear! :D:D

Still plenty of OS here, OH will bring milk in tonight, if he evers gets out today, as it's only for him. I'm constantly surprised/shocked to find what's at the bottom of my freezer.

Hope everyone can keep well and warm.
  • Hello Everyone

Cold here in Bristol but no snow this morning.....Dolly only stuck her nose out for a few minutes this morning but soon came back in -she's learning!

Have to go to work to get paperwork ready for new learners next week-don't usually work Fridays so won't be staying long.

Tea will be something I batched cooked and froze or-wait a minute I have veg for a root veg stew and dumplings...mmmm....with beans....mmmm.

It's getting light and the dustmen have been so better leap in the shower before DS gets up. We both work locally....

    Have a good day everyone.

    Take care

No more snow overnight here, really icy underfoot and still so bitterly cold.

Had a productive day yesterday, as didn't venture very far and stayed in the warmth of the house. Dinner last night was roast chicken portions, mash, veg, LO cauli/broccolli cheese, and gravy. I'd made a pastry case with the LO pastry last week but then didn't know what to do with it but decided last night at last minute I'd make a treacle tart for dessert, DH and boys enjoyed but I had banana custard, not so long ago I would have not known what to do with it and thrown it away!

Yesterday got my housework done, some ironing, menu planning, shopping list written. Today I will be heading out once boys gone to school, need to visit the scales, will be interested to see how I've done this week as I've had HM soup 2 days this week for lunch so will see if that's made a difference to the weight loss, not holding out much hope though, starting to think maybe I've reached where my body naturally wants to be. It's a bit frustating though as I'd like to lose another 11/12lb really.

Will be going to do the food shopping after I've been to the bank, then home again to crack on with jobs, want to get beds changed and cooking/baking underway. Will use opportunity today and tomorrow to try a de-pit of the boys bedrooms, not a job I'm looking forward to, but DH is working tomorrow so ideal time.

DS1 is going away with Cadets tonight so I'm taxi for him and 2 of his friends, I'm sure they are going to have such a good time.

Not sure what's on the menu for dinner tonight for DH and myself as I'm taxi service, so will need to have something I can leave to cook whilst I'm out or takeaway - not very OS and we've been really good only had fish and chips as a takeaway in the last few weeks, I can't even remember when we last had chinese!

    Have a good weekend everyone.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

my god its cold today. probably not colder than a lot of you though :o i think its forcasted to be around -1 today. have no intention of setting foot outside the front door although i may need to.

ds has croup and had another bad night. debating whether to take him back to the drs or not as he is still sounding horribly wheezy. i suspect the drs will stll just say sit him in the bathroom with a hot shower pouring.

other than that, i want to do lots of baking. i struggle to find any motivation. some days its too much effort to cook so figured if i cooked a few meals and bunged them in the freezer it would help out.

other than that just general housework to do. will be difficult as ds is as clingy as anything at the moment where he is unwell.

hope everyone is well and not too cold

    Morning :santa2:
A Christmas tree in my calendar today.

I was watching the news yesterday Penny, wondered if you were snowed in :D

My week has been wasted, grrrrrrrr. I tried to hire a needle gun, but they had no compressor. You can't use one without the other, stupid HSS. Phoned Brandon's, they recommended a scabbler and have reserved one for me, I'm picking it up this morning. I'd already decided that mr tru was to stay away while I did the work, he's got a chesty cough and the job is really dusty. This morning I stretched, a pain shot from my neck to my elbow and I can hardly move. This is going to be fun :D

I've just been down the garden to let the chickens out, it's -4 and the ground is like an ice rink.

Not sure what to do about food today, as the kitchen is in the living room for the day :D Might put the slow cooker on the coffee table and make a stew.
