Don't take my word for it though - it might just be that, I duno, they are incompetent!
I would say if you worked for them before, maybe they have bypassed the checks for you for that reason and you are definitely reserve list?
I cannot understand how they decide who has the skills necessary, when the application is just a few yes/no questions and the interview is a few questions that seem very vague. I knwo they are supposed to use Siftability but they're not!0 -
I am mid 30s, surname starting with T and on the reserve list. Shouldn't have changed my name when I got married and then I would have been a G0

just to outrage and annoy everyone
i'd just like to say i've had a very smooth experience
applied early Dec, did siftability and phone interview mid-Dec, references sent mid-Jan, conditional offer early Feb, e-learning mid-Feb, invite to classroom training end of Feb, classroom session mid-March, offer sent and accepted yesterday.
but in light of other posts on here i'm not going to assume it's sorted until i start on 6 April!
sorry for those who've been mucked around. it must vary a lot depending on which area you apply for and how many other applicants for that same area.
(early 50's last name starts with C)0 -
I've finally had some emails and appear to be on the reserve list for the reserve list!
No idea why I didn't get any further as I thought I had a good chance based on experience and qualifications. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I have got conditional offer for collector job, am 42 and surname W.0

I asked to start on the 21st March part time and did all of the application and interviews back in November. Apart from a couple of emails about being patient I have yet to get a yes or no. I'm pretty fed up. I can't work out how they are recruiting. I applied before the first deadline but then saw it had been extended for the area I was interested in. You'd think that might mean they didn't have enough applicants but it seems to be that they were holding out for a certain type of applicant. Who knows? You'd have thought they could have told me I wasn't on the A list back then. I'd really like to see the stats for each job.
Has anyone actually been told they haven't been successful ?0 -
Offer for Collector Job, aged 18, last name B0

I'm amazed at how the position are filled. They base it all on some crappy test and there's no application form to list experience, skills, etc.
I've worked on the last 2 Censuses and didn't even get a look in this time.
From my previous experience of this work, it's jobs for the 'boys', as they like Council employees and even ask this on the basic on line application0 -
Sounds like it Olias as my friend had an informal interview/asked for ID etc, elearning bla bla bla and is reserve list I think. Sounds like if the reserve drops out then the next lot of reserves get brought in!
Sounds like those of us getting onto the reserve list now are reserves for the reserves (or even reserves for the reserves for the reserves:rotfl:)
I can quite imagine that you could go to the trouble and expense of doing the training, organise your babysitting only to be rejected the day before. So they can stick their job where the sun don't shine.
I'd like to think that they will suddenly find they have p'd everyone off so much that they have no-one to do the work. Unfortunately, we are in a recession and there are lots of people desperate for the few measly pounds on offer. Might just hold off on filling my form just to see the quality of the collector who calls around here.:rotfl:7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
It is rather amusing - been one of those told constantly that I would hear something in 2-3 weeks and it has been a few months. Now told on the reserve list for a collector role but please do the e-learning and send us all this information we need blah blah blah. Oh yes surname begins with S. Cannot see how on earth they chose the candidates - telephone interview was about 5 minutes long with an interviewer who sounded bored and uninterested and was obviously reading from a script (strange the number of closed questions in the interview as well).
Anyhow I have basically told them to stuff it as the entire recruitment process is farcical and I cannot be bothered to mess about doing 3 hours of e-learning etc. I was between contracts for a month which is the only reason I thought I'd do it as it might have been quite fun and I'd get out in the fresh air for a bit - now I am just going to have a month of chilling out instead which sounds good to me :-)0
