hmmmm, seems to be a pattern emerging here!
Basically, If you are in your mid 40's then forget it!

I am becoming increasingly convinced that age discrimination is alive and well in the UK.
I too have been waiting months for a reply from Capita for a job that is meant to start this Monday.
Surname 'D' Age: 570 -
Believe it or not, while I was typing my last post, I recieved an email concerning another census position, and guess what................I'm on the reserve list for that too!!!!!
Don't know whether to :rotfl:or  !!!!!

I am going to have to knock the age discrimination thing on the head I think!
In my class for the training, there were 18 of us. I was by far the youngest! The lady I sat next to was 40. The others in the room were:
Table 1 - Man who said he's retired 9 years ago (so I duno, what would that make him, 69? 74?). The man sat next to him looked to be of a similar age (also retired).
Table 2 - Man of similar age again, had done previous censuses, and next to him a man in perhaps his 50s who'd been made redundant.
Table 3 - Man of about 55ish - retired engineer - and a lady of similar age - postmistress.
Table 4 - Lady in her 30s I'd say (works for county council in admin) and then another 50-odd year old man.
Table 5 - A man, unsure of age - he was an OU student, looked on the older side but acted younger, so not sure.
Table 6 - Two women - friends - in their 50s (one works for county council in a leadership role, the other mentioned being unemployed).
Table 7 - Two ladies who'd done every census since 1971, easily in their late 60s and retired.
Table 8 - Us - 2 women of 28 and 40 (the 40 year old had been made redundant, had a baby same age as mine, both of us on mat leave).
Table 9 - Two women in their late 40s/early 50s - not sure of their jobs.
The trainer said they'd had a fair few students apply and be successful but that he'd seen a variety of people.
To be honest I think we just have to summarise they are crap! I don't think age comes into it.
Maybe it's tokenism. Perhaps they are trying to select a cross-section from the different groups in society and once they meet their quota that's it? I don't know. It seems odd that none of you would get a job when some of the people who have, don't really seem up to it.
I was given a conditional offer and have not heard anything since training. Being given an offer means nothing.0 -
Just to add to the confusion, I'm in my early 20's and have still heard nothing!0
-
Just heard... I'm on the reserve list too. Surname 'B' and I'm 33.
So is anyone who is on the reserve list actually going to send the photocopies in and complete the online training? Afterall, we only get paid for the online training if we actually start work and since we're reserves who says we will do??0 -
ezmok,
I think there is a pretty high chance you will be taken on properly since those of us who received conditional offers and have since heard nothing, are likely to tell them to shove it! Others may drop out shortly after it starts.
All this hassle has led me to consider whether I want to actually risk being abused for £7.41 an hour, which will net me about 1100 over 6 weeks (including the holiday period). The answer is NO! My baby turns 1 on 20th April - I don't want to have to pass up the opportunity to spend some quality time as a family that week. The Royal Wedding is not everyone's cup of tea, but I don't really want to miss out on the celebrations there - it's a big thing here... we are having a street party!
I just can't be bothered with it! I don't need the money badly enough. I hope they have enough reserves because it looks like my friend was a reserve (the one I mentioned in earlier post) and she is telling them to shove it too!0 -
Can I just check something please. I have been told I have been put on the reserve list for both non compliance officer and assistant, however that's it, my emails don't say any more. I have not had a telephone interview or anything. Others have apparently had telephone interviews before being put on the reserve list and have been told to do online training and submit copies of ID etc etc. Does this mean there is some sort of two tier reserve list? This is getting dafter by the minute!

Sounds like it Olias as my friend had an informal interview/asked for ID etc, elearning bla bla bla and is reserve list I think. Sounds like if the reserve drops out then the next lot of reserves get brought in!0

Brilliant, despite working for them last year, getting a great reference from my line manager and a bonus, and despite them telling me I've demonstarted all the skills and experience needed for the role, I only get as far as the reserve list for the reserve list!:T
