I don't understand the point of all of this totting up the figures in pairs malarky. I get why it might be beneficial to pair up for the property listing, but beyond that, why do I need to speak to my partner every other day?

Even if you split the postcodes and only cover your own areas you need to report joint numbers to your manager, so you will need to speak to your partner about that.

I see the benefits of having 2 people to cover houses where 1 person might get a refusal, but you're right that they could have given individual areas to cover. We will just have to work with what they've asked for though.

Surely the people you are asked to interview (who are meant to be a representative cross section of every household that was originally asked to complete a census return as I understand it) will in the main have completed their census returns on time unlike the obstreporous, imbecilic and uncooperative little so and sos you were chasing while wearing your Capita Collector peaked cap.

What a judgmental statement! As you didn't actually do the job, how do you know what reaction collectors got from people? The overwhelming majority of people whose doors I knocked on were polite, co-operative and helpful - very few were difficult. There were many reasons why some people's census forms ended up on my workload as not returned - postal failures, new tenants etc. I was pleasantly surprised by the responses I got. Most people were relieved I wasn't trying to sell them something. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

In regard to the jsa scam, I don't get it... Heres why.

Your saying that you finish work one week, you can't claim the next week because your still in contact, but your holiday pay doesn't cover that full week.

To keep it simple, lets say your last working day is a monday, you are in contact till friday, and you are paid for holidays, but your only due 2 days holidays, which will cover tuesday and wednesday.

Going by what your saying, you believe you would be out of pocket for the thursday/friday?

I don't see why, just make your claim from the thursday, it doesn't matter because you are no longer working, and you have taken your holidays. If you are no longer working and meet the conditions for jsa then claim, if you wait till after the official contact end date and loose out then thats your fault.

If you do decide to claim after the official end date, remember jsa is a 7 day benefit, claim from the saturday. That meens contact jcp on the friday before, not on the monday, as I can't see you getting it backdated because 1: not knowing isn't a valid reason and 2: if you weren't actually working on the friday then you have no valid reason why you couldn't contact them then.

As I understand the census contacts the holiday pay is paid as if you were taking holiday time off, rather than holiday pay/pilon accrued and due when a contact is terminated early, so you need to claim as soon as the holiday days have ended

I do think it was a change for once for the job app to not say you needed to have done 1001 things before in previous job roles to do this one as the job market is getting to the part where unless you're jack of all trades it makes it very difficult to get any employment really no matter what you have done before.

Agreed. Another pleasant break from the norm is the weekly payment. I can't remember the last time I was paid that way as I'm either chasing clients for invoices:mad: or paid monthly.

Congrats to the 1000th poster. Just to add that this has been veiwed 75,000 times since I asked the first question, and it has been a wealth of information (for me I was thankful to find out about our pay slips being online). 30 days on and today is sadly the last day, but I have enjoyed it and hopefully they will do another one in 10 years as i do think the information they will find out will be invaluable to the whole of society in one way or another.

Yep, this has been a good job, a good thread, despite some random interjections (!) - you all know what I mean.

Got an email this morning about CCS interviewers - so sent that back and we shall see what happens.

    Well done everyone.

You should be fine, I certainly didn't have my booklet in advance and the e-learning was thorough enough to cover everything. Apparently there is an online copy of the booklet if you want to try and find that, but I managed it without.
