    Really??!?!!!!

So all those millions/billions of £ being spent on marketing budgets around the world are wasted?

This single post has been your biggest credibility fail in this thread.

    "aaahm oot"...

You quote good old Duncan here. Did you know he started with an ice cream van?? Bought Care homes, lost a million, started health clubs, bought a casino.. LOL

Anyhow you are now comparing me to MASSIVE giants here. As i have said i would invest any money made back into the business, this would be on advertising ,media and making the site better.
When did you see ebays last tv ad hey?

Ebay is still being advertrised but at the moment TV and newspaper ads are concentrating on the outlet branch. It is still the ebay brand though but it is in most newspaper magazines today.

  • To answer the original question of what do I hate about Ebay....

Firstly it would have to be the listing fee. That is the single most important thing that drove me away from ebay. I'm fine with commission, I'm fine with having to pay extra for certain payment methods. It is the listing fee's that drove me away.

Another feature about ebay I dislike is that all the fee's and charges seem to be hidden or buried and it's something you have to actually search for as both a buyer and a seller in order to work out who's getting a fair deal.

I would like to suggest that I don't like Ebay's search engine and I find that some sellers list items under specific categories they do not belong to, just because they are 'accessories of the type' and there appears to be no policing as this. This is one feature that continues to drive me to amazon rather than Ebay.

Ebay also has a preference to Paypal users, which I quite frankly disagree with as a buyer. I do not use Paypal anymore due to a dispute (as a buyer) and thus, Ebay is pretty much out of the question for me. Instead what I want to see is the opportunity to list in currencies relating to where I sell my products using a variety of different payment methods. Google Checkout, BACS transfer, Cash, Debit, or at least have the opportunity.

Of course what is important here is security which is going to be quite important to your website.

I would also love the opportunity for advertising to highlight my products on the front page which...Ebay for the most part doesn't do.

Not being one to watch TV, it's quite unlikely I'll ever see one. On the other hand, TV isn't the only method, what about Radio stations etc. I haven't actually seen Ebay being advertised in the Yellowpages, nor have i seen it being advertised in the Metro, The Local NewsPaper, The Times, or The Guardian, or The Independant.

In fact the only Ebay advertisement I have seen in the last four years is on a bill board and that was when it was being plastered over by an advertisement for The Range.

The sellers that are on your website should eventually dictate how and where your website advertises. For instance if you have a lot of sellers selling collectible items, then you'll want to advertise at Auction houses or Billboards nearby auction houses. Usually this kind of information is forgotten when starting up so...

Ebay were in the Metro on the 32 days last week I got a copy.

Advertising is important but it still needs more than that. Tazbar had a big TV campaign two Christmasses ago (was it two or three years?) and yet went bust this year and recommended ebay to all their users.

32 days last week? You mean 32 days ago they advertised? Last time I looked at the metro (last, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) there was no mention of them at all (maybe they were there but if they were it was very well hidden), but that doesn't mean they don't advertise on other days instead.

Sorry I meant 2 days. If you are in London and use the tube they are plastered with ebay ads as well.

Obviously the hidden ones we haven't found yet. All the others come up when you look at the ebay fee table where it is clearly outlined.

Thank heavens i'm only a paying exactly what the tables show I should pay and what my listing statement says before I click list.

None - I think...although technically most sellers pass on the cost anyway so...technically, we're charged listing fee's etc etc. That's why I generally find lower cost items elsewhere. I know I would.

Soolin, unfortunately, I don't live in London, I live in Gloucestershire. Probably why I don't see constant advertisements for ebay.
