Still nothing here
I went down town earlier, the small pedestrianised town area was almost deserted. Total of about 20-30 people, with 2-3 in each shop and 6 in the street.
I found out why yesterday it was deserted where I went - apparently all the side roads/residential areas were snowed under/frozen, and I was on the A/B roads. So the residents were looking out and thinking "not going out in that", while I was driving along empty roads not 100-200 yards from them wondering why nobody was out0 -

Then, having waited about 45 minutes to get served every previous weekend before Christmas, I walked straight up to a checkout with nobody in front of me. Very strange, but very good.
Yet we are told this:

It's been pretty quiet around us this weekend, but this isn't a very good place to judge from! DD2 had problems just getting a train home from Exeter this morning though - lack of drivers.
Most people will be back at work for the next couple of days, so I'm hoping things will stay calm, till panic sets in around Thursday!0 -

DH's blackberry started going early, people saying they weren't even going to try getting into work. We got to train station ok.....though it IS slippery out there on the roads...and ours have been gritted but refrozen. He's going to play it by ear and come home today/tomorrow if it looks like its getting much worse he'll work from home too.0 -
Lots of healthy walks in the snow this weekend.
Managed to get son's car out yesterday afternoon. OH's car is rear wheel drive, so is useless; mine isn't that good. Son's little Aygo seems to work best.
Said son is supposedly arriving back from uni tonight. If anyone is near Watford Junction and can tell me if the taxi rank is still operational?? I can't see us being able to get out of our town in that direction, whereas a taxi coming in could at least get near us.
A snow scene, my bird station bottom left:

Main roads are all completely clear round here. Can you really not get to Watford, even if you take the long way round via Stirling corner and the A1? Just to add, I have no idea about Watford Junction station, but the cabs are starting to appear again round here, after a shutdown of service when the snow fell.
My experience round here is that the trickiest part is getting the car out of the driveway. A couple of sensible neighbours, one Swiss, cleared the snow as soon as it fell, when it was still all light and fluffy. I felt cold just watching them (from inside). No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Just spoken to a friend nearby and all their plumbing has frozen up. we've been ok for indoor plumbing overnight. Inside window ice is bad this morning (i've taken to scratching out a christmas themed design with a finger nail on one of the upstairs hall windows each morning) but the out door loo wasn't frozen.
I'm cold though today. After doing the animals midmorning I might just try and sleep to conserve warmth.0 -

The first difficulty is getting out of our road!
If I can get out of the road, I could get to the A1 via Holiday Inn rather than stirling corner. How do you get from the A1 to Watford? via the M25?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Ex hubby finally arrived home late last night....a journey lasting 13 hours.
I couldn't go to sleep until I received the text, how sad is that!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I find the main problem is getting out of the driveway. If other cars have been up and down your road, there's no good reason why you can't too.
Go to A1, then head towards London to Apex Corner, then A41 to Watford. I tend to steer clear of the M25 as much as possible. Anyway, that's how I would go.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
