What is the harm in a little bragging anyway, even if it's down the golf club, about some good charitable deeds you've done? It's harmless and if you feel good about yourself for doing good deeds, showing there is good in you, it might also encourage the other person to do the same.
Sorry, but I can hear the sound of a barrel bottom being scraped, when people are slating people who do good deeds as being Conservative braggers. Doing good and feeling good about it is more my view, like Lir's and others.
It's a bit like Rimmer, bravely not telling the rest of the crew, who are too weak to move in the hopital recovery unit, the ship is on a collision course and that the ships engines are dead.. whilst he's been working tirelessly night and day for the entire week, by himself, trying to prime and restart the huge complicated engines that have been offline for years. The strain of sitting there, pretending everything was hunky-dory and lah-dee-dah whilst they were hours from impending doom was intolerable. He wanted to break down and confess. He wanted to beat the floor and wail like a professional mourner. He wanted to whip everyone into a frenzy of self-pity and panic. Instead, he had to sit there and be selfless and brave. What was the point of being selfless and brave if no one knew about it?0 -
This looks to be the full version in a PDF. All the chapters in prime numbers? It's on a Russian server... and the link and document isn't ringing any alarm bells for my (fully tooled-up) browser and computer. If someone wanted to have a flick through to decide whether it's a worthy real world book purchase......

It's written how I think, which is weird to read... and it caused my head to go off in 1000 directions, so I had to stop. But I think I will read it, just not all in one go as it's making me count things and think things.0 -
And, I have a question.
I always thought your name was dope-ster. But today it occurred to me that it could be do-pester. And I wondered, is it do-pester? Do you like being 'pestered' for things? Because you seem to like answering big things that need a lot of knowledge. So I think, to me, from now on, you'll be do-pester, which is annoying as I liked the name dope-ster.0 -
I've glanced through that 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time', reading a bit here and there, which is not something I usually do, and some parts pretty interesting, so will probably have a proper read of it in the future.
Haha PN. I've never looked at it that way before; do pester lol. Now you've got me thinking whether I'm doing the pestering, or annoying, of people... and whether I subconsiously chose the name to do that.
The dope part I seem to recall chosing because I wanted play a bit dumb, to see what sort of response I could draw on certain topics from people who might think they have full knowledge of (HPI forever). The 'ster' bit because it sounded cool... like napster. With it being such a large forum with many sub-forums did not expect to settle around. The American dictionaries I've looked since have this definition, which made me a bit 'yeah':0 -

Thanks for the link dopester. FYI you should be able to borrow e-books free from the library service. The great thing is you can register with other library services if yours don't offer it. If you're interested and get stuck registering with yours, feel free to PM me.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Well this continues to be one of the wierdest pre-Christmas weekends ever. I just went to my local Tesco to get bread. The roads were fine and there were few cars there. Then, having waited about 45 minutes to get served every previous weekend before Christmas, I walked straight up to a checkout with nobody in front of me. Very strange, but very good. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? It was like that for me yesterday. Roads 100% clear, temperature 6-8 degrees outside, sun shining .... no queues.0

All our snow is still here, much to the boys joy.
They have been out and built their snowman plus other weird and wonderful shapes and are now back in and defrosting.
Not sure what the main road is like, our road looks horrendous but my neighbour managed to get her car out early this morning and get to work (although I don't know if she made it, only that her car wasn't outside), so it should be possible for me to do it too.
Ex husband left this morning to do the 400 mile trip home..with my ex mother in law on board, I know I shouldn't worry as we are divorced but I do worry, you can't just forget 20 years of a largely happy relationship in a blink of an eye. Their trip home will entail going through some of the most affected areas in the country...if I had been him, I would have put it off for 24 hours. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Just back from London totally worn out so about to go to bed. We managed to get to the concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Had to battle train cancellations there and back but still happy I didn't drive in. Concert was lovely. Loving my Canadian winter weather boots that I bought in the States, they are good to minus 20c so my toes were toastie for the two miles I had to walk in the snow. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The local newspaper is calling it the deepest snow we have had for decades..and that was for the main town, our village got more!
Our main roads are still very dicey but I managed to drive on them ok and got down to my parents, something that needed to be done as my brothers wedding is only 5 days away and my dress needs to be altered (not size wise, we are adding some extra hem with organza and netting), plus we need to really get down to the nitty gritty of the organisation of the day.
Getting into their drive was fun, there is a very slight incline and my car just couldn't get the traction to do it, no matter what I tried, so two of the boys got out and gave it an almighty shove to get over the big hump of snow..it was so deep, I could hear the snow scraping the bottom of the car and the front bumper acted like a snow plough, with a pile of snow piled up in front and sides of my car when I finally parked. We made it!
