Its pretty impressive isn't it. I'm not a huge fan of wedding cake though. I make fruit cake because family like it. I also like the Collin Street Bakery fruit cakes....but who's mad enough to buy a very expensive cake to come airmail to have the one piece they can eat a year. :o (last year my other bought one and I was v. grateful). she used to make a cake that was entirely made of nuts and glace fruit, no other sugar and barely any cake...just nuts and fruit, but she lost the recipe. I LOVED that cake.

Oh I see. Sorry Mrs B.

I noticed a quote about Victoria Beckham lending a dress to Kate, so presumably they must be a similar shape?!?

As it's hilly here I judge the distance to the top of each rise so I am even freewheeling over the top.

Freewheeling from 60 down to 30, where the next speed restriction is, can be tricky as you can't do it while anybody's behind you (or you're the mad old driver that was going slow)... but I even do that where I can.

Modern injection car engines, as against carburettor engine cars (*), totally shut off the fuel supply when the wheels start pushing the engine rather than vice versa, so use the engine to slow down rather than the brakes if you can anticipate the junction, speed limit etc.

There is a whole mega thread on here somewhere about saving 15% on your road fuel bill.

On the subject of cheap car servicing, I have a mobile bloke that fixes things that are a bit tricky for the amateur - such as changing the cam belt.
You get it done there and then on the flat bit of concrete outside your garage, and that avoids the hassle of booking in the car and picking it up 10 hours later - terrible waste of time, even if you take your push bike out of the boot to make a quick cheap get away.;)

    John.

(*) This piece of British engineering is a thing of beauty - another example of the way we can invent things but never quite manage to exploit their full potential.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)
