I remember years ago, during some oil/petrol crisis that the Govt changed the national speed limits, to slow people down, to conserve energy. I think it was 60mph for motorways and 50mph for dual carriageways.

    Edit: Here it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_speed_limits_in_the_United_Kingdom
It was a national top speed limit of 50mph in 1973. I'm sure I remember it happening again, later (while I was driving and I passed in 1980) though.

Can't get a link to work, but has everyone seen a link of the naughty verger, doing cartwheels down the red carpet by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier?

    LOL/verger. No. Good on him!

If I were Kate I'd demand to know "Who is that man??" then "Bring him here - give him cake and champers."

OK me: 1. I like to ''drive'' a car. it keeps me awake and involved n the actual driving.
    2. Its cheaper
    3. Its what I know

DH says 1. its fun 2. its easy 3. everything else fits the bill

(its actually a bigger engine than we were loking for but it also has other nice things like cruise control/air conditioning good for a car its age (11 years) and a low milage for age.)

edit: mor frivolously it is a nice colour, subtle....not one that announces your arrival, and it has leather seats....remember the dogs? that would be a nice bonus, wipedownable seats.

DH wants to buy it tomorrow/Sunday. I want an AA check which he thinks is over kill (£2.5k car spend)

Our over bath shower panel fell off this morning - 14 months old so no doubt we won't get any joy from the retailer and a fun job for me to do today, the top plastic 'hinge' is broken so it will need to be replaced. :(

SSue it looks like you are either going to have to try and fix the washing machine yourself or pay a man - if the laundry prices there are anything they are like here it won't take long for getting it fixed to pay for itself - its a shame you don't live nearer as I would come and give it a try.

Laundry prices? We don't have a launderette within 40 miles!

Using my parent's machine is much cheaper......unfortunately, it means I also have to water their plants while they are away.

My brother and/or family friend are going to see if they can fix something to the outside of the machine to hold the door in place, if not, then I will be going to Hughes to rent a washing machine (like I already rent the cooker!)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I remember my parents doing this. Can you still rent every sort of appliance?

Sue, do you have anywhere that sells reconditioned machines near you?

lir if you don't get an AA inspection, make sure you know what you are looking for from something like this:
