I have changed my name to TVO, which matches my car's number plate. This seems to me to be a sensible MSE way of having a personalised plate. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Oh dear. Someone failed to tell you, TVO, that the correct number plate for you would have been TUO....so you have to interpret the U as a V.
Those are weird the numberplates where you wonder for two minutes minutes after they passed you/you passed them just what it is they were trying to spell within their budget.0 -

How many miles do you do Lydia?
About 10,000 a year I think. Most days I'm just pottering around the town where I live. Journey to work via kids' school is 3.7 miles each way in urban traffic.
I also travel to my parents (45 miles each way, mostly motorway) every few weeks, my friends (40 miles for one and 100 miles for the most frequent other one) every few months, and my brothers (100 miles for one and 330 miles for the other) once or twice a year each. For example that petrol verso does 36 mpg officially whereas the diesel model does 45 mpg (20% more) so even with diesel costing about 5% more a litre you still make decent savings on running costs - I make it £1620/10,000 miles for petrol and £1380 for diesel.
Yes, I wondered about trying a diesel this time. I'm still thinking about it. I don't have strong feelings either way - I've driven both before.I still think you should try something like a Honda FRV or Fiat Multipla as at it would be great bonding for all three of you to be in the front together and then you have the whole back for bikes/musical instruments etc. In ours we can have 5 seats, one seat out and put bicycles straight in with out mucking about with cycle racks etc.

Both of them in the front with me?? Perhaps when they're older. At the moment I am still making them stay in the back where they can't fiddle with things and generally distract me when I'm driving. It's bad enough when the two of them are fighting in the back, but I really wouldn't be safe to drive if they were fighting in the front, and so far I can't rely on them not to start squabbling if they're sitting next to each other.
Those cars you recommend look like useful vehicles, but probably bigger than I need, and therefore costing more in fuel and insurance etc (not to mention difficulty of finding parking spaces).Lydia, that Verso you are looiking at has 7 seats. There's bound to be a premium for that number of seats, and I thought there are around 3 of you? So, do you need a row each, or is there a mammoth rota for the school run?
I certainly don't need 7 seats. I've managed fine with 5 up until now. Sometimes it would be nice to be able to go somewhere with a friend and two kids each without needing to take two cars. What I really do want is boot space. I've lost count of the number of times I've taken the back seats right out of the Tino and filled up the entire back of the car with boxes of stuff, or furniture, or stuff for the tip, or whatever. I like the square-endedness of it, and the height - both from the luggage capacity point of view and the driving position.
If I want something with at least the boot capacity of the Tino, but without paying for the extra two seats, what should I be looking at? A Ford C-max perhaps? (I've just spent the day with a friend who waxed lyrical about Fords!)Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Lol!
People think mine says Dossers. It doesn't. It has two Os and one S (well, a 5).
It definitely says what I wanted it to, makes my car like my pet.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

is there something in the air? I've had a car accident today0

Oh no, missk!
Maybe its this sun that we get so rarely making people squint. Are you ok? and, the car?0 -
I don't know if things have changed, but at one time the Multipla was a great secondhand buy. It's so so ugly that secondhand prices were rock-bottom. I've no idea how robust it is, as it's a Fiat.
You can have the kids in the back, but it will take six at a pinch, so that's you and the other mum plus 4 kids sorted. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
