I'm in the midlands PN. Probably about as far away from the sea as any part of the UK. Have a look at where Wolverhampton is on the map.

These days cars are better and roads are better, making distances seem shorter. I grew up 60 miles from the nearest beach and 90 miles from the nearest half decent one. It'd take 1.5 hours to go the 60 miles, so years would go by when I didn't as nobody else seemed to like the seaside as much as me and they'd rather just sit around town on a wall than drive to the seasidelemonjelly wrote: »:D:D

I think, provided you plan your journey well enough, I'd agree with PN. I feel long distance journeys seem shorter. What I would say is travelling shorter distances feels longer nowadays.

A couple of years ago, we stayed at a B&B not far from Barmouth (Dolgellau) and the beach north of Barmouth is just great.
But you're probably tempted by the 'hunt-the-chick' competition in Ironbridge.

10-20, probably not a great deal of difference... but I passed my test in 1980 and so cars were those old fashioned ones that people laugh at now. Roads were slower, no motorways/dual carriageways. A Ford Capri was a young lad's total dream car... well also a Triumph Stag or Spitfire. I've spent a bit more time online and am now inclining towards a Ford Focus C-max. Possibly this one.
It wouldn't give me the extra seats, but it would mean only having to borrow an extra £1k instead of £4k.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
