My diesel works out at just under 12p/mile... I continually read the mileometer and am aware just how much every trip's costing me:D:D
approx 113 miles. Hardly any of it would be motorway - bit it would be picturesque welsh scenery!:)PasturesNew wrote: »Just read back ... and in full .... blimey. 2.5 hours from the seaside - you need to MOVE DUDE!!!
I'm in the midlands PN. Probably about as far away from the sea as any part of the UK. Have a look at where Wolverhampton is on the map.
The scary part, is 2 years ago, I realised that I hadn't seen the sea for 9 years! (That morning I went & got straight into the car & drove down the m5 to weston super mare - not exactly the sea, but close enough):)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Funnily enough I would say that with traffic up and speed limits down and more cameras, car journeys now take longer than 10 or 20 years ago.PasturesNew wrote: »These days cars are better and roads are better, making distances seem shorter. I grew up 60 miles from the nearest beach and 90 miles from the nearest half decent one. It'd take 1.5 hours to go the 60 miles, so years would go by when I didn't as nobody else seemed to like the seaside as much as me and they'd rather just sit around town on a wall than drive to the seasideI think....0

I think, provided you plan your journey well enough, I'd agree with PN. I feel long distance journeys seem shorter. What I would say is travelling shorter distances feels longer nowadays.

If the weather's okay, I'd go to the beach.
A couple of years ago, we stayed at a B&B not far from Barmouth (Dolgellau) and the beach north of Barmouth is just great.
But you're probably tempted by the 'hunt-the-chick' competition in Ironbridge.0 -
Barmouth sounds like a fictional beach from The Archers!
Go to the beach. Everyone likes the beach. I always go at Christmas, even did when I lived in England.0 -

On a bank holiday 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
My signature was fine for the last 2 years

G - I sometimes worry that you remain too immersed in your Englishness and are not fully embracing your new culture - for example discussing The Archers on a UK based discussion forum...I think....0 -

My first car was a 1968 model.
In fact, here's an actual picture of "The older boys" round my way when I was growing up http://thesoulsurvivor.co.uk/ditton_fields_may_74.JPG0 -
I've spent a bit more time online and am now inclining towards a Ford Focus C-max. Possibly this one.
It wouldn't give me the extra seats, but it would mean only having to borrow an extra £1k instead of £4k.
What do you think?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
